Sold my 04 5AT and bought an 06 6MT

Sold my 04 automatic Thursday night and bought an 06 6MT today. Man what a difference in the two. It's like a different car all together.
On the freeway, I didn't even feel like I needed to put it in 6th gear, the car wasn't straining at all, heck I forgot to put in in 5th a couple of times. Lol
The hfl even works but honestly it's a pain the the rear to even set up I don't think I'll ever use it.

Going to to put the gm synchromesh in it asap. It has 132k miles.

I might do that. Although the gm synchromesh is not that expensive.

Did you buy the white TL 6 speed on Craigslist? That was a great looking car!

No. If you are talking about the one here in Columbus, I went to look at it. Not as nice as in the pictures.
My wife and I drove to Indianapolis Saturday morning. On the way back it was near white out conditions on I-70. We passed two pickup trucks overturned and 2 other cars wrecked in the same accident.
I cant believe I drove over 6 hours for this car.

I found this one on autotrader. It was never listed on Craigslist.

The best 3G TL upgrade you can make Plus, the 6MT is about 100lbs. lighter than the 5AT. And you've got the upgraded Brembo package and stiffer suspension on the 6MT. It's basically the "unofficial" Type-S. That 6MT is one of the best on the market IMO. It's sensitive as hell but super fun once you get used to it. Oh, and that transmission is solid whereas the 5AT is questionable in the 2006. They switched it up halfway through production I believe. There's a few that have had a slight synchro issues with the 6MT but it's been very isolated, and the GM Synchromesh tends to fix it.

Have fun!

The driver side seat tracks seem loose. Is that something I can fix by removing the seat and tightening something on the tracks?
Or is it most likely just wear and nothing to be concerned about?

The synchromesh is already on the schedule to do. I called the gm dealer near me and they have it in stock. The only thing he wasn’t sure of is if it was the one with the friction modifiers.
Seemed annoyed that I was asking but since it’s 2 miles from me, I’ll just go look.

Yes, you absolutely need the Friction Modified version of Synchromesh.

I’m sure this is a stupid question but where do I get clutch fluid for this car? I noticed on the engine cover there is a Lanier for clutch fluid.
On my previous manual, a 2008 civic, I never noticed a clutch fluid reservoir.

Per the Owner's Manual, Honda Heavy Duty Brake Fluid Dot 3. I'm like 99% sure your Civic used Dot 3 as well.

Yes but that went in the brake fluid reservoir. The clutch reservoir is the same?

Thank you horseshoez. May I ask another stupid question or two? Why don’t they just label it brake fluid instead of clutch fluid. Lol

Because both brake and clutch systems are hydraulic and as such, they both use hydraulic fluid. In the case of the TL, Honda calls for their own Heavy Duty Dot 3 brake fluid.

Ok. Thanks. Now I understand why when googling 2006 Acura TL fluid, I couldn’t find any.

Horseshoez, did you ever figure out the compass situation? I got a radio and display unit from an 08 for $30. I would like to put it in mine, I can also get the compass from the same part out but not sure where it is exactly in the rear deck. I can figure that out, then wiring has to be run.
I also have the plug from the 08.

Hey Joe,

Unfortunately you're ahead of me; right about the time I got my 2007-2008 display unit last summer, I got volunteered (by my boss) for a project which has been all encompassing since. Hopefully I can get back to the display project in my TL next year.

I sold the automatic to my nephew in his mid 20’s, it is in great condition, new dash and new lower leather, but Sunday I told him he shouldn’t come and drive my manual because then he will want to sell it and buy a manual.

congrats on the new MT, yes the MT is quite faster than AT. The sweet spot actually shifting from 3rd to 4th vice versa, however you also be careful not to over rev during down shift.

Just remembered something...the front bolts would sometimes loosen every few years on the driver seat. Probably from all a dem torques.
Anyway, you don't have to remove the seat..just tighten them back down, 14MM IIRC.

Congrats on the upgrade!!!

Here's the GM Trans Fluid that I use:

ACDelco Synchromesh Transmission Fluid 88900399

I get it from Summit Racing: $9.87/QT

That was the plan even before I got it. I'm hoping the dealer has it for the same price and I can avoid the shipping charge.

Just wanted to put that part number out there since GM dealerships can be weird about giving out part numbers, or sometimes they won't give them out at all. It's been hit or miss as far as dealership pricing for me.

Summit is $9.87/bottle and Amazon is $18.88/bottle? for 88900399.
