So you want lower grill valance fog lights on your TL huh? <PICS> 3G Garage #G-031
<LONG POST>
I too have kicked around the idea. YES, I know there are fogs in the headlight capsules, but I too, like the look of driving lights down low. So, when I was changing oil today I decided to check it out (since everything I read 'says' there's no room....but has anyone actually pulled the grills to see?). Popping out the grills took a whole 60 seconds each (yes, it's that easy). I then grabbed a set of driving lights I never got around to installing on my old A4 (ok, that was 4 years ago now, <sigh>) and snapped some shots:
First, YES, the infamous "you can't put in fogs because of the venting" does exist, though it's WWAAYYY the heck over in the driver's side corner. Honestly, even if you wanted to do something way over there, (in my opinion) based on the placement you 'could' probably get away with that as well. Here's a couple of pics of the front without grills, and the instake duct:
Some options for the fogs: The notes below refer to the amount of room available and mounting surface, etc. The plast inside the valance that you see is actually very sturday and PART OF the bumper, so fastening to that is an option.
Option 1: (Small modifications necessary to install)
Option 2: (Definate modification necessary to install)
Option 3: (No modification necessary to install) - My personal favorite, really like how the fogs looks in contrast and angled to the headlight capsules.
Option 4: (No modification necessary to install)
Option 5: (Definate modification necessary to install)
I'll try and answer any questions anyone may have the best I can. I may attempt this (based on what I find out on the price of replacement grills) in the coming weeks. Quite honestly, I don't think it will be that difficult. The hardest part will be making the grills look OEM after hacking them up.
Hope this info helps!

How difficult is the wiring? Are the foglights HID to match the headlights or are they low intensity?
If the OEM grilles will look like they were attacked by a can opener, maybe this could be a combo project with mesh grille?

If you know of any particular good 'smallish' HID's I'm interested to hear that. That would be my preference.
Thanks,

i installed day time running lights just like you did in option 4. theres no switch or anything, it senses vibration and it turns on, and it shuts off after like a minute without vibration. they dont help lighting at all, (only 6 LEDS on each side)but it helps to see in front of the car at night when im walking into my house, and it looks hot

I'm not sure, but I thought there were instances where the oinkers would give you grief if you had your fogs on all the time. It would be nice to wire the grille fog lights to that extra opening available next to the VSA button.
After looking more closely at your pics (I'm out of town right now, away from my TL), it looks tough to fit in mesh, unless you could somehow utilize those clip in slots. Your opinions on this? Thanks

Do you have any nighttime pics or any links to where you got these lights from?

The Canadian TLs don't have any fog lights. I suck at wiring....anyone have any easy tips/instructions for fog light wiring? Thanks.
I may try installing mesh by cutting out the grill but leaving the frame (use a high speed Dremmel or something). That'll also make it easier to contour an outline around the fog lights.
How much should one be spending on decent fog lights? Clear or blue tinged?

Mesh grill
I'm not a big fan of changing what is already a great looking car but I can see how some might like the "boy racer" look. I did too, 30 years ago. If you opt to change the lower grills I would suggest perforated metal instead of expanded metal and use a minimum of 14 ga. steel (stainless steel if you want to assure no rusting ever). Unless you have a sheet metal shop in your garage or don't care that your $35K looks homemade I would take it to a sheet metal shop or HVAC installer where they do duct work. For a few hundred bucks they can cut and form these parts with a flnge that you should be able to screw into the original opening. If you're putting in fogs the can cut those openings and roll an edge around the hole to make it look like factory fittings.
If anyone does this let's see some pics.

I'm still unsure if I'm proficient enough to wire/thread everything well but I think PIAA 004XT lamps are ideal. They have the HID colour without a cheap blue cover. These particular PIAAs are not as outrageously expensive as the rest.

Has anyone considered this?
I was wondering if anyone had considered the idea of
dropping in the "fog lamps" offered as on option on the
Honda Accord as a suitable fit for our TL's? I have not seen the specs, but thought some of our more savvy members could comment on this. We have a blank knock out available on the dash (at least I do.. and it has been mentioned earlier in a previous post.. next to the VSA switch) and I am sure that this being a HMC vehicle, this might be a logical approach, as we had the dealer installed fog lamps added to our previous 2002 Odyssey and they used the blank knock out on the dash for installation of the switch. As a kit from Honda they would most likely supply the lights and switch and wiring harness for the fitting. At least it would be Honda Equipment or sanctioned by Honda. Just my on this idea. (I would like fogs of some sort.. as noted before... we Canadian owners did not get fogs... DRL's instead)

I still prefer #5, would the small and wider foglight like this
fit better for #5, instead of
?

can you run some false wires and take some night pictures with them light up?? that should really help everyone decide right there. just an idea, it would be a little bit of work, but not to much, cause you wouldnt have to hide any wires for the test.
