So I test drove an '08 Type-S...
I went out earlier today to test drive a 08 type-s, for reference I daily an 08 base with bolt ons. This TL had 103,000 on it and the transmission seemed crazy rough on it. It shifted so hard and unexpectedly that it actually made it a chore to drive! Is this normal for the type-s? Or does that tranny need some new fluid?

it's a type eth, everything is rough and hard about it. my hardest shifts are 1-2. rest are smooth.
...it's normal. downshifts are rough, i never have to use my brake to stop/slow down.

I went in with the assumption that the transmissions between the base and type-s models would be similar, best way I could describe it was trans mount destroyingly rough haha

Hahaha I felt the same when I got my TLS coming from a base. I was like wtf feels like all the mounts are shot on this car. So I replaced all my motor mounts and tranny mounts. Turns out only 1 tranny mount was bad
and car still felt the same kinda feels like a manual the way it downshifts. Also The steering feel was so stiff I though my power steering pump was out. After A month of driving it there is no way I will go back to the base model feel.
I really love it now lol.

It's normal for the tranny to be rough.
Not sure if you noticed, From Park to Drive, it'll be slow to fully engage and same thing from Reverse to Drive, etc.. vice versa.

Transmission switches, new fluid and it'll be good as new.
