Snowboard Roof Racks

Which one is better for those who own roof racks for snowboarding.

Thule or Yakima?

I like the Yakima Fatcat 6 for the actual snowboard/ski mount. My friend with a cheaper yakima mount left it on their family van for years and never took it off while parked in the sun and weather (it's a wonder how it never got stolen..it's not locked on). Still works great.

Either Thule or Yakima products will work with each other. It's up to your preference, really.

I have a yakima rack with bike mounts.

just use their website to determine what Q Clips you need, along with the bar length. I would tell you but i dont remember them off the top of my head.

Those Q Clips can then be installed onto the yakima roof rack Towers. Most are the "new type" that use Q clips. the really old ones dont use Q clips, but they're not common. New Q Clips come with the landing pads(?) which are the rubber feet that go on the bottom of the towers. They're tailored to fit that vehicle.

got mine used off of craigslist for a steal. Definitely wouldnt buy them new if you have them locally available.

edit: looked it up for you:
Q Towers
48" CrossBars
Q116 Clips
Q112 Clips

Factor in buying Q clips when buying used. Unless you buy from another 3G owner, it's not likely they'll match. After the base roof rack, you can use any ski/board mount (Thule, or Yakima) as long as they have a round bar mount. If you're strapped for cash, a fairing isnt necessary but i would recommend it.

for the base rack...round bars or square bars? or the fancy alumnimum oval bars they now have avaliable (i either brand i believe). as far as mounts...preference. the mounts are interchangeable with the base racks.
