Should I be afraid of getting a used 2006 TL?

Hey guys this is going to be my first car and I am really excited. I love the third gen TL but I really like 2007 ones more than the 2006 ones. However the 2007 ones are a a bit out of my price range so I decided to start looking at 2006. I am really worried about the transmission issues I am hearing about though. Since I am in college I really don't have enough money to cover the transmission blowing. Is this something I need to worry about, I read that the 3rd and 4 transmission switches need to be replaced but as a never before car owner I don't know if that is a big enough of a thing to stay away from? In your opinion should I just stick with 2007 one?

I'd keep looking for a 2007, but the 2006 wasn't too bad, really... Make sure maintenance was completed and that there are no clunks or jerking and you ought to be ok. But by getting a 2007, you'll be much better off... 2004 and some 2005's had pretty bad tranny failures. 2G, 2002-2003 were easily the worst, but that's not the gen you want anyways!

Or look for a 2004-2006 TL with a manual transmission; those were pretty bullet proof.

Also, if you look at auto 2006s, check the transmission fluid for very dark color and burnt smell, could indicate problems and lack of maintenance.

Yeah their are not a lot of 07's for sale in Western Washington and it looks like the 2007s are about a grand more. I found one that I could get down to a reasonable price but it needs a new timing belt and that'll be another 1.3 grand...
