Sanding Inside Of Exhaust Tips
I was wondering after seeing another tl like mine, Can i sand the inner part of the base exhaust tips where they are currently black, and make it completely chrome? Will it rust or corrode?

the exhaust tips are painted BLACK inside.
you sure can sand the paint off.
it will turn out shiny like the outside of the tips.

Some of you may recall how I polished my exhaust tips inside and out.
Little did I know the black inside the tips was painted black from the factory and not "soot".
You guys are gonna say "whatever floats your boat bro" but I wanted to see what floats your boat.

I find polished gives it a unique look.
The only downside is that I have to use Bar Keeper's Friend on it often to keep it looking shiny.
As for having the exahust tips painted black, it gives it a sportier look.
No downside to it really as it's OEM LOL
I have a full can of Duplicolor High Heat Engine Paint in Low Gloss Black, ready to paint tommorow if polls are in favour.
I heard flat black turns out gray in the sun.
I need a mod to throw up a poll in here =)

No need to use sand paper. Just use barkeeper's friend and some elbow grease. The paint will come off but it will take a while.
I did mine a while back, but I didn't get all the paint off.

A lazy man might try one of those polishing balls (like for headlight restoration) on a drill and skip the 'elbow grease'.

The bar keepers friend really will do what you need. I think I have a picture on the first or second page of my progress thread with my type s tips cleaned up that way, no sand paper used at all.

Bar Keeper's Best Friend is a mildly abresive surfactant used for cleaning pots, pans, and a number of other metallic surfaces. The stuff is awesome, I use it at home all the time.
Simply use some hot water and some paper towels. Much like wetsanding, periodically wipe the surface clean and reapply.

PITA when you're sitting in the hot sun too.
Make sure you wear gloves haha - I got blisters
Also, use something more than just a rag.
My tips took a couple hours, EACH. Sitting in the HOT sun.

Wow, that's why they look so great. I did mine in about 30 minutes, used a kitchen sponge and throw away gloves. Not 100% perfect, but they look good. Just need to wipe them down after each wash now to keep em clean.

I used the rough part of a two-sided kitchen sponge and it worked well without much effort. A great alternative is to use steel wool as some on this forum have found success using.

I got the majority of the paint off, just have to get the top inside corners on each side (those corners are pretty tight).

To be quite honest, I didn't realize I was taking paint off when I did it, I thought it was just dirty from the exhaust. After I did it though, I was happy with the way it looked. I doubt I'll ever bother re-painting them.

No kidding. They needed a much deeper tip to hide the transition. I don't mind the tips, but you can instantly see they are just tips.
