Unhappy Ripped driver's seat... :(

So, my driver's seat cushion (the part my butt touches) has a rip in it...

Not due to anything in particular, just the leather has cracked with age, and finally it has ripped along the perforations in the leather.

(I have a 2004 TL with 180K miles on it, VIN number is <15,000.)

I have looked at getting a new Acura seat cover, and it costs $500+.

I think the 2004 seats are different to the 2005+ seats, as they have different part numbers for the seat covers...
So, it's really hard to find a used seat for a 2004 TL.

I really don't want to go to an upholstery shop, as I have had bad experiences in the past, and they can look so tacky...
Also, if I do one front seat, I really have to do both, which may make the $500 (bottom) seat cover a reasonable option.

I guess I really just need to find a GOOD upholstery shop, but does anyone else have any recommendations....

HELP.

Thanks.
Nick.

PS. I recently wore through my keyfob too, but I'm just going to buy a new one of those (they're relatively cheap.)

If you're getting a new keyfob I highly recommend getting a switchblade 07-08 key...

SEXY.

I suggest getting the two front seats replaced by a reputable upholstery shop.

If you replaced one at the dealer, you would still have to do both because the difference in wear would be really obvious. One brand new out of the bag and one with 180k miles and 8 years of sun fading is going to look very different.

I always hear 3Gers say how bad the TL leather is, I have normal wear creases in my leather but it still looks good and is comfortable as hell. Im coming for a mazda millenia S though and that leather would tear if you cut it with your fingernail. I think for a 8 year old car the leather still looks good.

How long has your friend has this repair in his car? My gut tells me it will just rip out at the perforations.
