Ring around my rotors 04 TL

I noticed in the last couple weeks my rotors have been getting this weird ring wear towards the top of the rotor. It was rusting in the rear so I changed them out on all 4 with brakemotive drilled / slotted rotors and pads. Just had them installed 2 days ago and driven about 100 miles. The same thing is now happening to all 4 of my brand new rotors. Does anyone know what can be causing this?

Are you talking about the outer millimeter or two of the rotor face? If so, then what you are seeing is totally normal.

Basically any area of the rotor that the brake pad does not touch is prone to rusting.

That's why many of us paint the rotor hats and edges of our rotors with high temp engine paint to avoid a rust ring. There are many rotors made by Stoptech, Centric (parent company) that come already painted black in these areas.

IIIIIFFF this is what you're talking about, I experienced the same thing with a brand new rotor and brand new caliper that I put on two years ago. Here is how much rust accumulated over the span of two weeks (no joke):

So, I decided to grind off all of the rust and paint everything.

Rotors have a high iron content so are very prone to rust. Surface rust is normal but if you don't like the look, you can always paint the hubs . I've done the same before installation of all rotors.

I've had ring around the collar. Oh those dirty rings!

Anyway, my best bud from high school who owned an auto parts store for 25 years sez slotted and drilled rotors are a waste of money except on those cars that came with them factory installed.

Yea, waste of money, but they look nice.
I don't have them on the TL, but the Kia Optima Turbo I purchased has them. Looks good, but sounds like a jet landing when the pads go over the holes/slots.
