Reset Service Reminder?

My TL has almost 10k miles on it and it is time for an oil change. I want to change the oil myself and reset the service reminder. Does anyone know the procedure for resetting the annoying service reminder in the DIC. Thanks!

Owner's Manual?

I can't believe someone actually read the owner's manual! I skimmed through it and didn't see. I guess I just expected that it was a special procedure like BMW and Mercedes. Thanks and I will go get the manual now!

Here’s the full procedure to reset the MID display, and also info at the bottom about other service reminders when you manually reset the MID yourself.

(The procedure on page 196 (of the 2004 owner's manual, and probably for later models also but if anyone has a later model with the correct procedure please let me know) of the manual is incorrect. In paragraph 3a of the manual, the requirement to hold the button for 10 seconds the second time it is pressed is omitted. If this is not done, the display will not reset.)

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON

2. Select Trip A or Trip B (You can use either one, so if you are using one to record data for something, use the other one to reset the Oil Life Indicator).

3. Press the < or > button repeatedly until the oil life is displayed.

4. Press and hold the Select/Reset button for 10 seconds. The Multi-Information Display will ask for a confirmation.

This will explain what happens to the other services items when you reset the MID before the service due message appears.

From the service manual, page 3-6: (NOTE: This information is not in the owners manual.

NOTE: If you are resetting the display when the oil life is more than 15%, the maintenance message "Service Due Soon" will be displayed. Make sure the maintenance items requiring service have been performed before resetting the display.
So this means if you change your oil before the 15% Service Due Soon is displayed, and you go to reset the display, if there are other items to be serviced, they will show up on the display, and if you clear the display the MID will take this to mean that you performed the required service.

      To clear the display:
After you get that service screen hold the reset/select for another 10seconds.
It will then ask you a question. I don't remember exactly, bus something about do you want to reset.
Press the reset/select button and the MID will be reset

The above information may not be exact because I did it a while back and forget exactly what I did, but the next time I will write it down and update this if necessary.

The statement from the service manual is a little vague, and I think they meant to say that if other items require service, the message "Service Due Soon" will be displayed, since if there is nothing else requiring service there would be no need for the message.

Awesome help Ron. Brand new to this site today. Been living with the bright YELLOW indicator about oil since I changed it last month.
      Good stuff.

I've read the manual and followed the directions. Not able to reset. After holding for the full 10 seconds, instead of getting the "do you want to reset the oil life meter", all I get is the "service due now - B1". Any suggestions? I'm working on our '08 TL.

try not counting seconds, just hold the reset button on that screen that display's the service needed (in your case the B1 screen) and wait a few to see if you can clear. If no go check to see if your reset button is working on another screen.........

The reset button does work on other screens. I'm not letting go of the reset button at the oil life screen after 10 or so seconds. I'm just counting the seconds as I hold. After about 10 seconds at the oil life screen, the "service due now - B1" pops on.

this is telling you which ones are due at that point, quoted from Ron A's post:

So this means if you change your oil before the 15% Service Due Soon is displayed, and you go to reset the display, if there are other items to be serviced, they will show up on the display, and if you clear the display the MID will take this to mean that you performed the required service.

After holding down the reset button for 10 or so seconds like the book says to reset the oil life %, the "service due now-B1" came on. We continued to hold the reset for another minute or longer and the "do you want to reset the service light" screen appeared and in turn it reset the oil life to 100%. Thanks for the info.

      Cool Well have you ever......

With the MID in the temp mode. Hold down the reset/select button till you see the temp displayed?
If you do an hold it a little longer. You will ether increment or decrement the temp readout. I did this quite by mistake one day. I would think that this would reset the calibration on the temp. sensor. Anyone have any input here???
