REALLY Can't Decide: G35 Coupe 6sp or '04 TL 6sp w/Navi.

Hello all.

As the title says it, I'm having a really hard time deciding on which car to get. I've driven both and still can't decide (TL was an auto though).

Here is what I have come up with. The G35.... well... it's a Nissan. The car I drove was brand new.

Below are a list of cons for the g35 coupe:

1.) Brand new car and I was already hearing rattles.

2.) The clutch pedal travel is way to long. It is also to close to the brake pedal for my liking. I felt like a girl driving with my legs so close to eachother, I liket o have a little distance between them. So I did not like the position and feel of the pedal.

3.) When I shut the door it was more of a clunk rather than a 'thump'.

4.) Interior was kinda cheap IMO.

5.) Didn't really like the way shifting the gears felt.

6.) It's a Nissan (Im a Honda lover)

Some pros?

1.) Rear-wheel-drive

2.) Coupe

3.) Sexy looking

Although the G35 only has 3 pros going for it in my book, they are very big pros.

As for the TL, some cons in my book?

1.) Front-Wheel Drive

2.) 4 door (I don't need it).

3.) G35 coupe looks better IMO.

Again, these would be kinda big cons in my book.

The TL is superior to the G35 in all other aspects IMO.

I'm really trying to convince myself to get the TL but can't help but to keep looking back at the G35 coupe. For the same price I would be paying to get a G35 coupe 6sp with premium package, I could get a TL/6sp w/ Navi.

When I drove the G35, to be honest, it didn't really "do it" for me. However, the pros I listed for it are very strong and I can't get over it. I'd appreciate any advice you can give me and help me stay on the Honda path Thanks.

The g35's interior should have made you puke. There is absolutely no comparison when it comes to the interior.

Like you say, one is RWD and the other is a FWD (not a fair comparison). Obviously it sounds like you really want the g35.

IMO, 04 TL 6-speed w/navi (no brainer)!:worship::wow:

Here's another negative for the G35 - it's a two door - the insurance companies will nail you big time. I learned that back when I was buying Mustang Gts vs Taurus SHOs. Essentially the same hp but 50% surcharge on the Mustang and nothing on the SHO and the SHO was faster. I was also looking at the G35 but couldn't get past the cheap interior plus the front end that will probably get chipped driving it home and the slab doors that just beg to get dented. The one thing that I noticed with my 2002 TL-S is that you can't tell it is fWD - there is no torque steer. I've got a 2004 TL 6MT on order.

Also the resale value on 4 doors is generally higher than on coupes. Keyword being generally, you might want to look up the residual values on these cars.

Also, why I love my Nissan, Honda seems to have better resale value.

Not a fan of the G35 interior. The TL puts it to shame.

You say driving the G35 didn't do it for you. If that's the case then the RWD didn't do it for you then? So what difference does it make that it is RWD if it didn't do it for you? How I see it is that the TL's FWD isn't a big drawback unless you drive it near it's limits, thus you lose some of the RWD advantage.

The Brembo's all around are hot on the coupe.

TL has a much better navi and supposedly shifter, too.

Flip a coin. I don't see the comparison as worthwhile. You either want a coupe or a sedan. That should pretty much do it for you. If you can't decide on the G coupe, then consider the Accord Coupe. The G, by the way, is part of a recent recall. See article below.

18 2003 Infiniti G35 coupes with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine
18 cars out of the thousands that they produced isn't a whole lot. I agree with the comments already posted, a coupe and a sedan are two different cars. You need to decide first, which one suits your needs better.

I know this site is about the TLs but my pops is having a tough time trying to pick between the 2003 MB E500 or the 2004 BMW 545i. For those who have experience with both of these models, which one is a better choice? Thanx people..

I've test driven both the G35 and Acura 2004 RL ....

G35 drove nice, real nice, in fact it's a little rocket ship!

But I just couldn't stand the interior of the car! No place to really stash stuff. Also, the cup holder door kept hitting my arm when I put it down on the armrest ...

The Acura 2004 TL drove just as well as the G35 and I loved the interior. Adding in DVD Navi unit (for the same price as G35) did it for me!

My Anthracite / Ebony / Navi TL should arrive in 9 days! Can't wait :-)

I'd go for the Benz, but the BMW isnt a bad choice either. I just can't get over its looks, exterior and interior.

vtecracer;

1) G turns more heads than TL. So when you're driving a G, you'll notice people will look at your car. TL, on the stree looks like TSX to most people. Nothing special.

2) G has a nochy shifter and has had problems with tranny. That will eventually get on your nerves. TL has a great shifter.

3) G's interior looks/feels cheap. Sound system sucks (you need to spend $3K to replace it) , The seats aren't great. TL, has perfected the interior. Sound system is awesome. You enjoy being in it.

4) G's engine is strong but cries when you reve it up. TL's is not as strong, but it's silky smoth during high rev.

VERDIC: If you want attention, go with G. If you want to enjoy driving go with TL.

Hope this helps!

I have driven the TL and G35 Sedan, both AT. TL engine is smooth, G35 rough and irratic transmission. TL very lux interior with sporty accents, G35 looks like they borrowed from a cheap home all-in-one stereo for the buttons. TL exterior nice except for ugly grill and other matte finished fake chrome. Should have gone with thin chrome everywhere and skipped the horizontal (Chysler, Ford-truck) bar on the grill. G35 exterior, especially the coupe is nicer in my opinion. Bottom line, I would pick the TL if getting AT. Couldn't say for sure regarding MT since haven't driven.

Weird but true. I drove in the same day a G35 M6 and a Maxima 2004 6 sp. I noticed that the Maxima's engine had a better sound while the G35 was harder to drive smoothly. Neither transmission was particularly great.

seriously....the interior of the g35 is really really bad...for the TL, just look at it...it comes with every option you want standard...atleast that's what came in mine...and you know the value isn't going to drop a whole lot compared to the g's

18 Coupe, but 21,xxx Sedans with the same engine.

It's still mis-leading though as all of those Nissan's are 2003 or earlier.

That coupe is an awfully good looking car. I think this comes down to 2-door vs 4-door and the interior.

It all depends on what you want. If I were you I would go drive the TL-S 6MT and then sit down and decide on what you want to buy. TRUE STORY: I wanted a G35 coupe BAADD, but my cousin got a TL-S and bought it over to my house. Soon as i saw it, sat in it , drove it. Totally forgot about the G35. A part of me still wants the G35 coupe cause ive been in love with if for like years. But i know that overall the TL-S is just a waayy better car.

I completley disagree with the first point" G turns more heads than a TL". IMHO the TL with A-SPEC alone turns more head than a G. I would get the TL hands down. But then again, i am Honda over Nissan all day as well.

It would appear that you like to get noticed by what you drive, not so much what you need in a car. Why not spend the $35k and buy a used NSX. You'll be sure to turn some heads and have Honda reliability.
