PSA- name of Autozone Duralast CMAX Gold pads has changed!
All,
I know a lot of people recommend and swear by the Duralast CMAX Gold brake pads which are a killer deal from Autozone because of the lifetime warranty, so I wanted to give this PSA to save others uncertainty in the future.
I went in to pick up a pair for my TL this weekend and found that the CMAX Gold name is no longer in use. They rung up my warranty info and the part number for the replacements is the same as the old, but the name has changed.
They are now known as Duralast MAX brake pads.
I have confirmed that they are built the same as the old name, which is why the part number is the same. Don't let the name throw you off when you go in to pick up your next pair. They are still at the highest pricepoint out of all the Duralast lines of products, so it's not a downgrade in any way.
And yes, the "buy it once and the rest are free for life" thing is real- you buy them the first time and every time after that you just bring in your worn/old pair to the store and you get the replacement set for free. In my case, since I don't have a second car, I would always have to buy them again, put the new ones in, bring back my old ones and then they refund the transaction so it's like it never happened. Works like a charm every time, and I've done it everywhere I've lived so no one should give you trouble.
Good luck, and happy Saturday!

OP, thanks for the info!! I might give the CMAX a try next time, but at this rate, it'll be another 5-6 years before my RB ET300s wear out....

Not many, but I'm one of them. I now have ~160K miles on my RB ET300s (current ODO mileage is 235K, 13.7 years) and they are only half worn.

Last time I checked the RB pads they going around $200 ish. Meanwhile the Cmax going for $50-$70, I don't track the car that much so fading won't be an issue, however I do spirit driving in my IS with Cmax gold I know the pad has a good initial bite and does not fade.
