Power steering rack advice?
Went and got my 05 TL checked up, turns the steering rack had some leak. Dealer didn't tell me why except slap a $1400 quote for replacement in my face. So i went and checked it out at a local mechanic and they found that the part behind the rubber springy looking thing (sorry for being a noob) had some fluid around it on the outside, not dripping leaking. I checked power steering fluid and it doesn't look like it's draining at all...any advice? I saw the best money efficient way was to check and fill your power steering fluid once in a while...what should i do? would you guys recommend that?

Not much you can do. These aren't easy to rebuild. If it still drives fine, just drive it. A little fluid seep (not leak) isn't detrimental as long as there's plenty of fluid left. When it gets worse, then start worrying about it. Not worth replacing it it's just a bit of a seep in my opinion.

Paperboy is right, you can still drive for as long you can if you have small seep. But eventually the steering will have uneasy/uncontrolled feeling on the car at 60+mph and it will confuse you thinking that its the suspension component or tires/wheels.
I did change mine for under $600 (not sure) at local small independent shop.

@Cokorote, did you replace your steering components before replacing the rack? At low speeds would your steering wheel will pull one-way or the other when going over uneven roads or was this just a 60+mph issue? i'm trying to diagnosis my issue because two shops have already said all steering components are tight and alignment is good. Honestly thinking to have everything replaced (tie rods, and ball joints)

I was going to do the axle as next list to eliminate the vibration but decided to do inspection before buying it and it ended being that the rack and pinion was leaking and there were a lot of play apparently.
I just replaced reman rack and pinon with new rubber and other new component and the car feel tight and the uneasy/uncontrolled feeling is completely gone.
And this is just 60+mph issue only. Have a inspection with different shop. Don't go waste money like I did.
