Please help!! How do you install TYPE-S Trunk Spoiler install on Base TL

How do you install the trunk spoiler from a Type S onto a base? I have an 05 TL and I want to add the trunk spoiler. Looking at parts diagrams online it looks like it has screws and such, but my trunk doesnt have holes now. So would it need to be drilled in and attatched? Im sure someone has done this before, any help needed because I might have finally found an OEM Type S I can get the spoiler from!!

drill the trunk
or, if you want to remove it one day, to sell, don't drill the trunk...
but beware, it may get stolen if not bolted down.

i would personally drill

Yes, you will be drilling holes in your deck lid. Some spoilers will have mounting bolts, some will have bolts and clips. Usually the OEM ones have the bolts and clips.

You can make a pattern of the mounting holes if you have access to the old deck lid. To do that you will need to have some 2" wide masking tape. Use the 3M Blue masking tape because it's twice the thinness of normal masking tape, stretches less. For small jobs normal masking tape is OK.

So, depends on the type of spoiler you are trying to trace. If the spoiler has holes just on the ends then its much easier than the type that has mounting points on the ends and the middle.

The idea is to mask off the holes, mark it, and peel the tape off and transfer that to your deck lid and drill the holes as needed... Pierce a cake.

For the spoiler with mounting points on the end only. The deck lid with the spoiler you just took off.

Left side mounting point.

For reference lets just say there is 3 holes on the deck lid in a shape of a triangle. The triangle is 3" tall. The triangle is pointing to the front of the car. You are standing behind the rear bumper facing forward on the left side (driver side).

1. Run the 1st tape so it covers the top mounting hole on the left rear corner area width wise using one continuous strip per pass. End the tape about 2" pass the last hole.

2. Using another tape (2nd pass) over lapping by 20 percent, run the 2nd tape paralleling the 1st tape until it pass the bottom 2 holes. Note: "Pass the bottom 2 holes" does not necessarily mean over the 2 holes. You may be using the 2nd tape as a spacer to tie into the 3rd tape.

3. Run the 3rd tape over and pass the 2 holes by 2".

4. Now run as many tapes as needed until it passes the end of the deck lid. Enough so you can cut the outline of the deck lid using a razor blade. BTW: You should also have tape over hanging the left edge of the deck lid.

5. Marking the holes. You can light up the holes from the inside using a flashlight and mark them on the outside with a marker by putting a dot in the middle. That is where you will drill. If the hole is small then just push in the tape with your finger and eye the middle and mark it.

6. Now peel the tape off and transfer the tape to the left rear corner of your deck lid. Now you've just transferred the hole locations to your deck lid. Drill as need.

7. Repeat #1-6 for the right side.

Spoiler with the holes in the middle.

Same idea, the difference is you will be running the tape across the whole width of the deck lid. Essentially you will have a big patch of tape over the rear part of the deck lid. And then same thing, cutting the tape off on the edges to make a pattern for transfer.

This technique works for all holes/patterns you want to transfer from panel to panel. i.e. front spoilers, rocker panels, door cladding, etc.

Only comes in black?

Hey guys. I just went to pick up the trunk clip from Acura and when I opened it it was black. I gave them my paint code when I ordered it. When I just called back they said it doesn’t come painted and only comes in black… Is this true or is the part number different for a paint matched factory lip?

My paint code is: NH797MX

After my installation, I would recommend only drilling where you have clear access. Like only drill where there is a Screw and a Nut.. (for security)
I think there are a few other fasteners on the ends that are really difficult to get secure. So, do what you can and use a strong double sided sticky tape in other areas.
like this... Dont use 3m

edit: I didnt see how old this is... oh well..

You sure that's a Type-S lip? Looks like a base lip to me.
