Your rims could have repainted at one point unless you bought your car new.

I highly doubt it peels off factory paint. Maybe if they have been sprayed after the fact it may take that paint off due to lack of prep

Umm not possible. I have had plastidip on many things and removed it after a year of being on, no issues. It doesn't adhere strong enough to pull paint off.

OP how did you remove the plastidip? Did it peel on its own? Your statement is rather an ambigous one.

i can see it happening to wheels with a clear coat already starting to peel but, a factory oem seems a bit hard to believe. something had to be wrong with it already.

Plastidip FTW! Somehow your wheel finish was compromised, it wasn't the Dip's fault. what did you clean/prep the wheels with?

the left is my passenger side rear wheel, right is my driver side rear. i cleaned my car with soap the day before i plastidipped and just cleaned them with a wet papertowel the day of. notice the color difference next to the center cap. and dont mind the extra plastidp around the lugs lmao. im probably going to end up dipping my other 2, to strip the paint and have all 4 just bare silver. if it dont work guess im going to powdercoat black ...

did you dip all 4 wheels and all 4 wheels turned out that bright silver finish? or did you only do 1 wheel and then take it off? you never explained anything so one has to assume on their own what you did.

okay, i will clariffy. i plastidpped both my rims on my drivers side to see how it looked before doing all 4. i never had time to finish so i had just those 2 plastidipped for maybe 2 weeks? until i hit a pothole and had to get new tires. the tire place ripped my plastidip so i removed it, and disovered my rims are now silver. while th eother 2 on the passenger side, wich i never dipped are still the normal color.

If you're convinced that the finish is removed, spray the wheel with aircraft stripper and see if it makes a difference. That'll take it to bare metal.

paint stripper is like my last option before i get them repainted. im perfectly fine with silver rims, if i can get all 4 silver im fine with that. like if the silver was a previous paint on the rims and i strip it, than im screwed even more.

maybe tire shop got scared of "ripping" the plastidip and aircraft stripped your paint?

ehh i mean the plastidip only had like tiny rips in it along the lugs and edge. i told them it was going to rip and i was fine. if they did aircraft strip it, it would have to have gone through the plastidip, on the entire rim. and the dip was in good condition, besides the tears, that were minimal.

Just dip it again, they just came out with new metallic ones so you could mimic the stock color.

IMO you're untouched wheel looks dark, even for a type-s wheel.

the one that was dipped and removed looks a bit closer to a type-s wheel shade but then again my eyes could be playing tricks on me. i'm just trying to make sense of this.
