^That is the choicest Non-TypeS 3G TL currently on sale in the nation(I think).

I wish I had like 3 less cars...
I'd make that happen for sure...
only thing is IL will have rust, which I abhor

I purchased a Massachusetts based 2006 TL last year which was spotless right down to the strut tower brace (which I discovered in my shopping was a good indicator of how much rust was elsewhere on the car). For this car in Illinois I would expect it to be as clean or cleaner.

my TL-S was originally from the snow state CT and NY, and yet there are 0 rust spot on the car. The previous owner has no garage either.

The Blue TL was surface rust mostly, nothing fell apart in my hand. I guess they are built to not be too susceptible then.

^^^ Well the way JHH drive its most likely the rust has fallen off. Like you said before, its rust but not to the point where there is a whole on the quarter panel.

lol...JJH was a maniac...I was shocked at how he lived with the damn clutch not being adjusted and tearing up the tranny for that long because he didn't want to ask the mechanic to take a look at it.
We made a pit stop right after I landed and it made the car MUCH more driveable but I would guess there was some long term damage done to grinding into first and second that led to the demise
of the transmission after the fact...couldn't have known it until later when it failed but...

I discuss with my mechanic at local Acura dealer, he works on these car since late 90s.

He and I come to a verdict why Acura decide to put a damper (delay valve) in the clutch, he said the transmission itself is very capable able to hold to 400 WHP but the problem come when people launch it. By no mean the TL OEM clutch is design to handle such task (hence cutting the production cost to give consumer lower price tag), the J35A8 is quite powerful for a FWD platform (or at least the most powerful Honda MT FWD up until 2007).

Honda decide to put a damper valve to reduce shock drivetrain and at the same time please people that complain about the "not so smooth" gear engagement" . So I confirm about the combo and consequence of each case as below.

1. 100% OEM set up...

The car will have slip if you decide to power shift or driving spirit (this put the wear and tear on the clutch itself) this is why people bought the car with 30k miles already has a bad clutch. Honda knew people buying the MT TL isn't gonna drive like grampa. with this set up Honda liability warranty out the equation since clutch is a wear and tear item like brake pads.

2. Check valve delete...

The clutch engage better with minimal slip (you will experience slipping because the dual mass flywheel) but it will put extra stress on motor mounts and axles.

3. Aftermarket performance clutch (stage 2 or stage 3) combine with sticky tires...

Now the MT is taking all the beating since at this point people start using performance parts for engine mounts and axles. So unless you rebuilt the gear internal with better materials that able handling extra shock ( he work on 3G TL setup for touring comp has a rebuilt MT to handle racing purpose). And if the owner decide to go nuts with launch and power shifting eventually the gear box will breaks.

I didn't mention about the forum but from what he stated that seem to be consistence experienced of MT owner here on AZ.

WAY over OP's budget, but a really nice car... Price is a little high, but the previous owner loved the car has it tastefully modded! https://jackson.craigslist.org/cto/d...757732125.html

I find a lot of TL's are very expensive used... I think J was asking like $17k for his KBP TL, if memory serves...

Also, I found a 2008 TypeS in CBP with an auto, completely stock, 115K miles, one-owner, no accidents reported for $9400, it was $$8400, but they moved it, but it's been on the lot a while... People rarely value good cars around here...

well people can list for whatever they wanted, its their car... if you don't like the price moving on... but if they able to sell or not that another story.

I swear this is why I gave up the search for a KBP MT, most owner be making statement like "you know this car rare as ...." please Type S MT isn't a big performance car as let say CTS-V, Lexus F car, AMG or M car... and yet most avg people out there think they own a Ferrari F40 lol.

By Honda standards, it's an exotic classic... By real world standars, it's a nice FWD sports sedan!

Personally, my favorite cars are classic Hondas and Acuras, therefore, I got WAY too excited to FINALLY see one last week!!!

I can see a Lambo and not give a crap because to me, they're stereotypical and over-hyped!!!

How many people go crazy seeing an older Acura, me!!!

I guess that doesn't justify overpricing used cars...

There's a kid I recently subscribed to on YouTube, he's saving money for a 6 speed TypeS... He has a beat up 2004 TL with a blown tranny and a 1997 (I think) Integra, he doesn't know much about cars, but his production skills and enthusiasm are incredible!

It's nice to see another generation crushing over 3 gens! This car still has it's street credit!

I never remember listing the blue one for sale...
I wouldn't have asked that much, I don't think.

Price range of a TL-S isn't comparable to the ones you list. Lets be real and compare Apples to Apples when talking about the Type-S. Can you buy either of the vehicles listed in a good shape, decent miles for less than $15k?

Lets be fair, if you asking $15k for the TL-S then I expected the condition worth $15k. Not some beat up (ripped seat and dash that has thousand cracks) or molested, the seller wants $15k because its Blue and MT? well I think I will pas... hell you seen enough of these example on FB group (one of the guy with his MRP wanted to offer $10k lol I seen that car before the interior is shot), when I was searching for a KBP TL my budget set at $18k and my expectation of return is well the condition should be worth $18k. You should know this as well lol.

I said originally that I was certain I had not listed it for 17K...
then when you proved me wrong with the link I changed my quoted post to reflect that I THOUGHT I hadn't posted, not that I hadn't.

None of your post look edited, but it doesnt matter, that was years ago... I added the link for two reasons...

1 - To show how much a clean/modded TL is worth, kinda like the one for sale in my state in the CL listing...

2 - Making sure there wasn't two rockstar143's on AZ, or testing you for dementia... (Didn't realize what all was going on in your personal life at the time and you have bought/sold so many cars since, how could you remember everyting)

I remember nearly every thread I've read...

My favorite was this guy, and it was about when your TL was for sale, he straight piped his TL and said it sounded like a "weed whacker Civic", the thread went MIA the next day, must've been deleted for some reason, but it was by far the funniest thing I had ever seen on AZ! He knew he screwed up but his reaction was irreplaceable!

Well, not as funny as when I screwed up my hood...

It's still covered in the CF vinyl too!

This reminds me of my old school days... Homie!

I vaguely remember that...
Honestly, the thrill of it all has subsided for me.
I guess because I did it up, then did another one up...I just realized it's all sentimental and there's no point in going back.
Still a solid car and great looking but it's not the end all.

i know the story.... I worked hard on trying to get that car and after a lot of calls/text, i finally got the VIN. The owner claimed he was a victim of fraud on the car and they bought it from an auction not knowing the details.

Car had 225k+ miles, 3 accidents and all kinds of stuff on the carfax.

I sent the owner the carfax and told him that he needs to disclose that information, the rest is up to him. Hope this answers some questions.

^^^^lol if the deal is too good to be true then it is what its. Remember the MT TL-S owner aren't dumb when come to pricing theirs TLs on the market especially those own a MRP or KBP, like i said before if that car is legit and EVEN with the cracked dash board he can still EASILY made $10k.

In 35 years when I will start thinking about selling my 6mt typeS, I’ll be sure to list it here, where it’ll be appreciated... but start saving now, I’ll probably price it like a small house... hey if there are no buyers, it’s not meant to be and I’ll keep it longer.
joke aside though, the TL, if the time comes, I would try to get it to a good home, no trade in.

Oh yeah! Easy!

Craked dash = coverlay!

No craked dash and no garage = coverlay or winshield visor!
