Painting the Front End of My TL-S
I got two estimates today to paint the front hood, front fenders, front lip, and front bumper on my TL-S. One was "around $2K", as per the assistant manager, and the second was $2,134. Both are known for quality work. Prices really have jumped up! In both estimates they are going to take off all the body panels that need to be painted (including taking off the front lip), so that no tape or paint lines show up. I'll see if I can get at least two more estimates.

I'm different. I don't want another car. I like the one I have. I don't want to waste resources. I'm going to drive this car until the wheels fall off. I also like to have relatively nice looking cars, hence the reason why I'm painting it. Plus, I don't want a car payment, even though I could easily get another very nice car.

Are they blending the paint into the fenders? Otherwise you might have a paint descrepancy between panels, regardless how good the shop is.

Lots of shops won't touch your car if you've done prep work yourself, makes sense when I think about it, for work guarantee purposes.
Anything goes wrong, its the blame game.

What color?
Hard to believe that they would take off all body parts that would be painted, but just remember, you get what you pay for so be wary of low ball estimates. Depending on the color, it may be difficult to match perfectly, even when they try to blend into the doors.

If they are blending its fine. When I was a painter, we would mix the paint following the factory "recipe", then we would spray out test panels to match against the car. If needed we would add various tints and spray out more test panels till it was close and then we blended it.
Any good shop would do that.

^ Joe said he'll do it for $1,500 Haha But yes paint is always going to be expensive, not materials but the prep is the most labor of the process. If the car is in good shape I say it's worth it. I have a guy on the side I can trust and he charged me $300 for rear bumper. I have a silver car and is harder to match, I can barely tell the difference.

Pretty cool! better than the ole tennis ball hanging from the rafters .
I knew it too. I was like..."I hope I pulled in far enough..." then proceeded to see the garage door hesitate on something....parts of the metal framing caught the nose/front end. all in all, not too much damage. just plastic nose that got hurt. would have been mad if it caught the hood. or my trunk. lol

I managed to drag the garage door on its way up across the trunk....that is why I really hate 6AM flights...I am f'ing stupid as can be at 4AM and unable to process why my car would not roll out of the garage until my wife screamed at me.
It would have been way worse if I had an auto. I was letting it roll backwards and it just kept coming to a stop....until I heard the screech as it came up the trunk. Luckily minor scratches and no real damage to the garage door either. We all do stupid shit and either pay to fix it, or just learn to live with it.

I decided to paint the front bumper and front lip only. They are going to blend the areas that I needed painting anyways on the hood and front fenders. Total for the front bumper and lip? $900. I'm having it done week after Memorial Day.
