Oil filter question - which model
#81
Wow! $5 each for a Fram Ultra?!?!?! Amazing deal.
Currently I'm stuck on the OEM S2000 15400-PCX-004 filters (by Filtech) as recommended to me by Larry of Endyn. I use them in all 4 of my Hondas.

Both are (were) excellent filters. I've never used Wix primarily because of the price. I've always used Mobil 1 M-110 or the PureOne, but I quit using the PureOne after their "burst filter media" debacle. I don't know if the latest batches have fixed the issue or not....

When I refer to Wix or any filter in this discussion, I'm referring to synthetic media (e.g. the Wix XP line) filters (yeah, the PureOne is not synthetic media). The Napa Gold is cellulose media. You will be hard pressed to find a synthetic media oil filter for under $12 unless it's on sale. That's why this deal on the Fram Pro Synthetic is such a steal.

The bypass spring on the S2000 filter is very stiff. This prevents the filter from bypassing oil around the filter as often (like when oil is cold). Also it contains a lot more filter media. Here is a picture of the OEM S2000 filter (center) and the WIX S2000 filter (right) side by side. More media also means less bypassing.
Also the OEM S2000 unit is recommended by Larry Widmer of Endyn. A long time Honda race engine builder.

And frankly after 248K miles, I'm still going strong!
Autozone recently had Mobil1 filters on sale for $10, so I picked up an HP-104 for my next change along with a 6 pack of Mobil1 5W-20 that was on sale at Costco. Came out to $4.50 a quart!

WIX's synthetic filter 51334XP available from rockauto for $6.97. The one I prefer to use.
