Oil, bring on the opinions!

Has anyone used full synthetic supertech for engine oil? If so did you have any problems?

horseshoez 02-28-2019 12:25 PM

Another oil thread? Really?

:lock:

If it has these. It's good.

I guarantee the SuperTech Walmart oil does.

It doesn't have to be SN Plus BTW. SN will do.

nfnsquared 02-28-2019 11:41 PM

OP, did you even bother to search before posting?

Oil rule #1: Any oil that meets specs and is on sale....

SuperTech is very good oil, it's UOA is every bit as good as Mobil 1.

I used in all my 4 Honda/Acura vehicles. Honda snow blower and John Deere tractor. My Acura has over 360,000 miles and I have been using since roughly 80,000 miles. Both Pilots have over 130,000 miles and the Ridgeline has 152,000 miles. Is this enough proof that it’s good oil?

From an engineering perspective, that is exactly zero proof of anything. Why? You're trying to prove a positive (the oil is good) with a negative (no issues, so far...); such anecdotal "proof" is no proof at all.

The above said, the proofs Walmart oil is "good enough" lay with the certifications the oil has printed on the side of the bottle/jug.

Well said from an engineering perspective. I wouldn’t expect anything less. There are those that say and think and there are those that “Do” . We know what camp you fall in. Get over yourself my friend and go back to the question asked.

Seriously? Why bother answering the question at all; there are at least a thousand oil related threads on this forum (probably many-many more) and literally millions on automotive forums in general. If anything this thread should have been locked after the first post.

I totally understand and see where your coming from. Unfortunately this is not your personally forum. These type of forums are design to help one another with questions and issues. If you find that member’s questions and post upset you, you should consider if these forums are for you. From an “engineering perspective”, those emotional feelings you have is just your “ elevated ego” coming back down to earth. Seriously, it will pass with time.

Wow, so focused on ego, is yours hurting a bit?

The fact is, the moderators on this site routinely lock new oil threads, as they do with "can I use Regular gasoline in my TL" threads. If the OP had just done a little searching the answer would have been readily apparent.

Penzoil Platinum changed every 7500 miles. Currently at 251,000 miles. Dipstick still reads full when I get my oil changed. So for me its worked out great.

jaydubz 03-02-2019 07:56 PM

Standard on sale conventional 5w20, change every 5k, never had an issue.

Given your engine was designed to go 7,500 miles per oil change on conventional oil, why would you think otherwise?

I only drive about 10-11k miles a year, so I usually change it every 5k, which puts me at 6 months on the oil. Kind of live by 2 (every 6 months) times a year or every 5k for the miles I drive. Sadly its also 85%+ city.
