New type s owner

I recently bought a 08 Acura type s with 185k on it. One time owner no accidents serviced at the dealership in PA where it’s originally from about a week after driving it I went to put gas in it and once I started it back up i noticed the car was reaving at high rpms but not really moving I automatically assumed transmission blew out. Took it to the Acura dealership the told me it was the radiator and the hose going into the transmission so they said they were gunna flush out the transmission oil and replace the hose and radiator. After doing some research I saw many ppl said that flushing the oil is bad and to change the filter as well as the fluid. I called them back and asked about the filter and told me it didn’t need any changing and that the “flush” of the oil would prevent any further damage to the transmission. So my question is should I change it anyway regardless of what Acura is saying?? If so what are the brands I should look out for and what are some other things I should keep my eye on in the future I’m hoping to have the car a couple years at least. The car sounds good besides this issue that just happened car looks good minor scratches here and there which comes with time. I’m more worried about the mechanics of the car then anything else any suggestions or tips on things I should be on the look for in the future????

I do not own an automatic but I believe a flush can potentially hurt the trans, Acura suggests a 3x drain and fill not a flush, there is a big difference. Use the search button on the site and a ton of threads will pop up on this subject.

yeah I gathered that from the research I did when I called back asking Acura about it the said that the flush is how to prevent tranny damage he said they would drain some add some drive the car for 5 miles and drain and fill again so I’m stumped on what I should be doing about the oil filter and I’m a new car owner I don’t know much on the subject. I just want to know more or less what I’m getting into I absolutely love the car just don’t want to have my money go down a pit.

Not sure if a trans filter is an absolute must, that being said hopefully you caught this in time and there was not too much slipping in the trans, slipping means the clutches inside the trans are slipping and that causes excess heat...and heat is the number one killer of automatic transmissions. Good luck and report back when its all finished.

Ask if coolant got into the transmission.... If so you may want to do a bunch more drain n fills to get all the water/coolant out. This happened to mine about 50k ago... Did about 10 drain n fills right away. If water is inthe tranny it can cause your clutch packs to fail earlier. Do it yourself if you can... Waaaaay cheaper.

Is this issue similar to 1st gen MDX's with poorly designed trans cooler/radiator fluid mix?
