in a nut shell
anywhere you see a plastic cover, there is a screw that has to come out
once the panel is off the mirror unbolts

you can order the cover from the dealer, it comes painted, and you can install without even removing the mirror from the door. did this on my car recently.

How did you get the T-10 torx screw out from under the housing near the pivot point? I just replaced my housing yesterday and was able to get all the screws out except for this one. I wasn't able to get it to a point where I could get my straight T-10 screwdriver into the screw head. Too much of an angle. I guess if you had a right angle torx screwdriver, but there might not even be enough room for that. I ended up having to remove the door panel to be able to take the mirror housing off far enough to get to that screw.
I had to use an equivalently sized allen key to get that one.

Hmmmm, didn't think of trying that. Next time I will give that a try. It actually wasn't that bad. It would have been better if I would have reconnected the turn signal LED plug BEFORE I put the housing back together, mounted it on the door and put the door panel back on. DOH.

man after an hour of searching through dead links I stumble onto this thread! I think my questions are answered, but would like to verify. wife backed into garage and messed up mirror on our 08. the base is still in tact, but housing and mirror are both broken. I found a replacement for 50 bucks in the right color, but base is messed up. I should be able to pick up that mirror and swap out housing onto our base and be good to go correct?
also I noticed our seat position memory stopped working right at the same time. could this be related to the mirror being jacked up? the mirror was definitely doing some random crap after she jacked it up.
looking at the diagram linked above I start by removing mirror glass and disassemble from there correct? thanks in advance for anyone willing to confirm my questions or add anything to assist in my replacement!
