My fixing and modding thread

Hey new member here just wanted to have a place to ask questions and post pics of what I'm doing to my 04 TL base 5at. Sorry I don't have a before pic but when I got the car the front bumper was a disgrace chipped and peeling paint everywhere and a rattle can job on the grill which naturally started chipping so they just did another coat right over the old chipped paint smh. I got a new non oem bumper for 325 from DAS auto in Edmonton and a replica aspec front lip from lipkit.ca for 145 (+80 to ship it). I had a buddy paint both for a couple hundred. When he sent the pic of the painted bumped I was thrilled but soon after came a text informing me the lip would not fit. So I headed to his place and we started trimming until it finally fit ok

Sorry my fat fingers were responsible for the premature posting but basically had to trim all the material that's supposed to go under the bumper and even so it wouldn't sit flush because the curve of the lip didn't conform perfectly to the bumper. We used 4 bolts two right under the license plate and one on each end but once I get the anodized bumper bolts($10 Amazon) I will be going with either 6 or 8 evenly spaced along the lip. I think its going to turn out looking really good and I know for sure it's not falling off any time soon .

Welcome! Looks great - nice job!

It's hard to tell that it's replica from far away, I love how your buddy painted the bottom part black too to imitate the OEM part, something that many with aftermarket kits don't do.
The front aftermarket lip tends to fit well, the rear unfortunately is a nightmare! I wouldn't recommend it.

Thanks for the warning I do want to have the complete aspec lip but I've got a bunch of other stuff to do first. Got the day off work so I'm gonna clean the EGR, port and polish throttle body and install an aFe silver bullet and HPS Sri. Pics to follow once I get in there

Just finished a full and hot (+30c) day in the garage I'm filthy and I stink so obviously it was a good time. I had an aFe silver bullet tbs and HPS Sri to install and I figured hey if I'm taking things apart I may as well clean the EGR port and clean up the inside of the throttle body. The tb was covered in carbon and there was a pretty big lip that i smoothed out so it was definitely worthwhile and it made installing the tbs and sri a relative breeze having the plenum out of the car.

Help please

I am awaiting delivery of a set of rear lower rearward adjustable control arms to correct the toe angle on my 04 TL does anyone know which nuts and bolts I would need. I believe the oem ones have some kind of adjustable hardware there that I want tobjust replace with a straight bolt lockwasher nut. Thanks!

3g wheel alignment

It only took a couple weeks to burn through my back tires after installing the Flex z's so I got a set of adjustable lower rear control arms and all new oem hardware which was a must since some we had to grind through a couple of the rusty old bolts here's the alignment specs before and after. The left rear tire was through to the steel belts no wonder since its toe angle was so far out. $120 for the lowered car wheel alignment and $600 for a set of off brand zrated summer tires was well worth it. My TL handles amazingly well for a big fwd. I'm planning on getting Js Racing roll-center adjusting lower ball joints and the spherical bearings for the lca and see how much better it can get!
