My 2007 TL-S (traded in my 2009 TL-Tech)
Hello AcuraZine members!
Just wanted to share my experience with everyone on my new, used, 2007 TL-S.
I traded in my 2009 TL Tech (non SH-AWD) last week on this 2007 TL-S. Prior to the 2009 TL I was driving a 2007 TSX with Navi. The 2009 TL was a very nice car, the interior and technology packed into that car was amazing. When the 4G TL first came out it took a while for me to want to purchase one, but after 1 drive while my TSX was in for service I had to have one. Fast forward 15 months later and I had to get rid of it. While the 4G is an amazing car, it just wasn't for me. The car seemed to "fluid". It was like I was not really driving it, it was driving me. So on a whim while getting the 2009 TL serviced I walked out to certified pre-owned lot, as I do quite often while I am there to see if a TL-S with low miles was there… Low and behold I found one.
2007 TL-S auto with 30,100 miles, ultra clean, nearly perfect paint, no wheel scrape, spotless inside.
I have often found other TL-S cars on this lot but there was always something not quite right with them. Never once did I find a 6 speed, but it was never a deal breaker for me.
I walked inside and grabbed my sales rep and told him I needed the keys to the car. He looked puzzled, got the keys and said "enjoy". 30 minutes later I was back at the dealership and said give me a number on my 2009 TL and your best price on the 2007 TL-S. Less than an hour later I walked out with my new, used 2007 TL-S. I ended up getting the 2007 TL-S for $23,400 out the door. Had to make up the $1500 difference on the 2009 TL payoff vs. trade value but since the 2007 was Certified I was able get the super preferred rate though Acura Financial Services.
The TL-S is an AMAZING car. It's absolutely nothing like the 4G… I feel that I am actually driving the car again. I can feel the response from the steering, it feels better connected to the road, I feel more in control. The factory Brembo brakes, which just got replaced a week before I purchased the car and so precise… the stiffer suspension feels great, and the engine is tuned so much better… even the shift points are awesome.
What I miss from the 4G:
1) Bluetooth Audio
2) HDD based navi (and the screen)
3) Proximity key
The trade off though, to me personally, was well worth it. The TL-S is sooo much more fun to drive and I saved some decent money per month on my payment and insurance.

Is this a first in Azine to go from a 4G to a 3G?
Wow! That's quite an unusual trade!
I could imagine the perplexed look on your car salesman's face!
How come you didn't get a 3g in the first place?
Anyway, congratulations and welcome to the 3G family!!!

Thanks everyone!
The only mod's I have planned at the moment is the AEM CAI. I'm sure I will find more as time goes on and I keep reading these forums.
To answer a few questions...
No, Acura Car Land in Duluth, GA (outside of Atlanta)
Could be the fact me and my wife have purchased 4 brand new cars and now 1 used car from this dealer in the past 6 years from the same salesman?!? I dunno!
My wife would kill me, but I have the itch!!
Honest answer here... I first spotted the TL-S in 2006-2007 when I was getting my TSX. At that time I simply could not afford the TL-S brand new, so I told myself one day I'll have one. When I got my 2009 TL Acura was running 0.9% finance specials so the payment on a 2009 was less than a used TL-S.
Thanks again everyone... I absolutely love this car!! Just got it back from the tint shop, previous tinting job was awful. The shop that did it for the original owner didn't notice there was no felt in the window seals so it scratched up the tint. Had the seals felt lined, old tint removed, and re-tinted!

did u purchase that from Bridgewater Acura?
how the hell did u get that for 23,400 out the door? You negotiate for a living?
ready to spend extra 10k modding it now.
How come you didn't get a 3g in the first place?

Great Decision!
Most would say downgrade, But I think its an upgrade. 4G is a bit too futuristic.
3G TL is simply the best TL made, especially when you've got the TL-S.
I still miss my 07 TL-S 6MT to this day after selling it to pick up an 04 TSX 6MT (Now that's a downgrade ). I sold it b/c the payments was a bit too high plus some other mechanical factors which pretty much forced me to get rid of it.
I think I now got my eye on the V6 TSX 6MT
Mods to Do 1st:
Drop + Aspec Kit

Great choice. I recently had a 2010 TL tech non SH-AWD as a loaner and I didn't like the car at all. That electric power steering feels way to loose. The center stack has way too many buttons. And no matter how high I raised the seat, I felt like I was sitting too low. Then there is the ugliness factor with the new car. I know I won't be parting with my 3G anytime soon. Congrats on getting that Type-S

The newer TL doesn't have a touch screen does it? I drove an RDX before I got the TL-S and it was just too slow after the surge in power but I was thinking practicality with the SH-AWD. Also, its NAV setup used a dial and did not have touchscreen and in daily driving, the knob is too cumbersome.
When it came down to it, I liked the ride of the sedan over the tall ride of the RDX and the gas mileage was not what I expect from a 4 cylinder. Like someone said, the TSX with that motor would be awesome, especially if the new TSX was double wishbone like the old TSX. That car is nimble with some A-spec suspension under it.
Good luck with the TL-S. I kind of wish i bought mine with a manual but my commute into NYC is grueling and the auto was needed for my tired knees. Myy Pontiac GTO was a 6 speed and I commuted with it for 5 years and 70k miles and the control you get with a manual is unparalleled from an auto or any auto-stick. The paddles on the auto TL-S mock you becuase the car still upshifts/ds when it wants not exactly when you hit the lever.

Wow, you don't see that happen (going from a new model to an older model). Congrats on the Type S. Awesome color (by the way...). Be sure to join our Type S Social Group here.
