Mirror tilt in Reverse

When putting the car in reverse sometimes the drivers side rear view mirror tilts down but the pass side stays normal, some times neither one of them tilt down and other times the pass side mirror tilts down (like in the 2nd gen TL). Isnt the pass side mirror the only one that supposed to tilt down or is there something wrong with the car?

It depends on the position of your power mirror selector - middle does nothing, left tilts driver's side and, you guessed it right tilts passenger side!

Im a near future owner of a TL but if I remember correctly from my salesrep, depending on where the button is for adjusting your rear view mirrors determines which mirror tilts or doesn't when in reverse. If the button is set for the left the left mirror tilts, if for the right the right tilts, in the middle neither tilt.

Oh ok. It was wierd to me because from what i remember, in the 2nd gen TL only the pass side mirror tilted when shifting into reverse no matter what.

As for your attempt at a smart ass comment about not getting a manual...who read those anyway

Quick Question. Why wouldn't you read the manual. Judging by your name I think I see what the problem is. Its your moms car. Therefor you wouldn't really care because you didn't pay for it. I would think that when you are spending that kind of money you would want to know what and what not to do in order to keep your car in tip top shape.

This is simple. The problem seems to be with the person sitting in the drivers seat at the time this odd mirror behavior occurs. There is an easy fix. Get on the nearest interstate, take the speedo up to about 80 - that ought to do, grab the strange looking black folder object in the glovebox....open the driver door and bail. Problem solved.

At a minimum, at least try to find the answer in the manual. Some forum members will bash others for saying exactly what we're all thinking and just like Rets said, "Does anybody read the freaking manual?"

Sure, very few will read it cover to cover; however, if you have a question about the new car someone in your family just bought then open the fuc*ing manual up and take a quick review to see if you can find your answer. Hell, you might learn the answer to your question and a lot more about your new TL.

I guess that's one possible explanation. Maybe Acura ran short of the manuals like they ran short of Navi parts.

It will tilt on whichever direction your toggle switch for adjusting the mirrors is set to. If you have it pushed to the left, your driver's side mirror will tilt. If you have it pushed to the right, the passenger's side will tilt. If you leave it neutral in the middle, neither will.

Apologies to anyone who took offense at the video that used to be embedded in the now-deleted post just above this one. I was making an attempt at defusing this thread with humor that I thought nobody would take seriously, but in retrospect it was the wrong thing to post.

Further apologies to anyone who might have gotten in hot water for clicking on the video and playing Cartman's string of profanities in a public place.

OK, since we are talking about the Mirror In Reverse,

I've noticed this a few times already, on my passenger side, when hitting reverse, as the mirror is tilting down, I hear cracking... It scares me. Anyone has experienced this? It's like something is blocking the mirror from smoothly tilting, but when I move the mirror manually (all directions) it is fine...

It's your Mirror motors going out. Just had mine replaced a couple months ago.
