Insurance at 18 years old.

For anyone wondering like I was a few months ago when I first bought my 3G TL (Base 3.2L) about insurance rates as an 18 year old driver. It’s $207 a month for me. I’m under my parents plan (zero accidents or tickets for step dad) (one accident for mom which didn’t change rate too much) and categorized as the driver. So $207 isn’t bad with All State, farmers wanted $400+ By myself which was out of control so stuck with all state.

Nope...nobody that lives outside your zip code cares since it is nearly impossible to directly compare otherwise. Plenty of previous insurance discussions over the years....prices are all over the place due to the multiple variables that will impact your rates like age, martial status, kids, driving history, credit score, zip code, state, coverage levels, deductibles, and plenty more.

I was on my parent's State Farm policy when I was younger. Apparently they only check your driving record (at least back then) when you initially are added and when you've had an accident. Managed to accumulate a bunch of tickets (mostly speeding related) without our rates going up. Good thing too, my parents didn't know about most of them. Learned to take it to the drag strip after that.

Rates are all over the place in north Texas depending on what county you live in. Tarrant, Dallas, Collin and Rockwall have very high rates due to the sheer amount of vehicles on the road and subsequent accidents. Get out of the metro area and rates can be up to half as expensive.

Unless coming up with $5k to replace it would be difficult...if you wreck your car and only have liability, you're out of luck if you don't have the funds and/or credit to replace it.

It surpasses the liability rule
He's paying way over 10% of the car's value to replace
That's not even considering the deductible
If it's 1k.. forget about it

I'm 23 with no record but a clean one, They were charging me $200 for my 3G TL at AAA paid that for 2years. As soon as I got a second car I got liability on both and only pay $118 for both cars and that's with a Safe Driver discount.
Even at liability for $118 for two 2006 cars I think its a lot

Per month.. sucks to suck.
The shit thing with OP is it's his parent's coverage
They should have some bundled savings in that plan
Time to buy a bicycle and a bus pass
