Lexus LED License Plate Lights

I have a set of LED lights on my TL now but the ones in the new Lexuses are a lot better looking. Anyone know where I can get them, whether they are the same type and if so a good online Lexus dealer that sells parts like the Acura dealers on this forum?

Thanks

The Lexus dealer wants $95 for each license plate light and you need two of them. I did not ask but from what I have heard, the Lexus lights are not LED, they are CC (cold cathode) lighting which is why they look different than LED lighting.

He already has LED lights, but wants the lights from the new Lexus cars. I have to agree, those Lexus license plate lights are much better looking than ours with LEDs.

To be honest, I think Lexus pays a lot more attention to detail than Acura. They make every aspect of their car "perfect" (ie. No cheap FOB, doors automatically open, engine push start, all wheel/rear wheel drive, no cheap yellowish lights anywhere). Not to sound like a traitor or anything, but I sometimes regret not waiting for the new Lexus IS.

Damn, I feel like I'm talking sh*t about my car. hahaha. I still love my baby though!

Thats exactly what I want too. I have the LED's license plate lights in now, and truthfully, I have to admit they are horrible. They flicker, already had to replace them once. They do not provide anymore light that the stock. It looks blue/purplish, even though the bulbs are superwhite.

I do have LED for the interior as well, but they are superbright (same supplier (tec-toyz)) it's just that I guess we need something better for the license plate lights.

Now, davenli, can you give us some more details about the cathode lights?

Well,

CC lights are what lights LCD displays for your PC/LCD TV. They are very white and bright. That is why the Lexus lights look very white and are much brighter than us using LED's. That is why it is so expensive from Lexus as well. Again, I did not verify that Lexus is using CC lighting for their license plates but that is what I have heard from other sources and from the way the lighting looks and it's cost, I can see it being true.

Lexus pay attention to details at expense of PRICE.

At the end of the day, it always comes back to the more money, more stuff you get.

Are they the same like wedge shape as ours?

As for them paying more attention to detail though, one need only look into the new IS and see the dedicated buttons for changing the hours and minutes on the clock....that just looks cheap.

I do want those CC lights though...

Is there anyway to find a what company makes these cathode lights? They look so nice and clean. Maybe if find the source we can get them cheaper than going through Lexus dealers.

They are called CCFL's and I have them on my License Plate on my G35

Very simple to install and costs like $15, people use them in Computers to light up the Box

heres some information on where to buy them and etc.

http://g35driver.com/forums/showthre...t=ccfl+license

I modded my sidemarkers with them too, and someone used them to light up there footwell lighting and under there doors too

Awesome. Can you simply wire it up as it comes, or do you need some type of resistors?

Just pull out the original wiring and it just needs the power wires coming out from the socket, it comes with a CCFL Inverter and You just wire it through it and stick the inverter somewhere, very simple

Umm, I considerd the new IS350. Again, not to turn this into a vs. thread, that car is NOT worth $42K especially given it's size.
I sacrificed the push button start, bluetooth key fobs, and about 28 hp for $10,000...

Oh well. With all that saved money I've invested in A-Spec, and enough power mods to compensate for power difference (ESP cats, pulley, and CAI are around 250 WHP which is about 300 HP at the crank given driveline loss). Ive also invested in a killer AV system, DVD, and other add ons... and I'm still $6K richer.

The TL is still the better choice in my mind.

Nice. Now are these water resistant, or do I need to place them behind the stock casing? Also, do you have a link to which one you got? And lastly, how do they compare to the lexus lights in person? Thanks!

the TL is a better deal. if you want a small cramped car that is expensive, fast, and luxurious, go for the IS i guess.

They look nice, but I would be worried about their ability to hold up to the elements. Those are the same CCFL that was used on my old BMW angel eyes.

i bought a few sets of ebay cheap LED's. the lisc plate bulbs already shit the bed. I am trying again with LED tho. I am bought a set of Raybrig and PIAA LED's, I am sure they will last longer and be a better quality bulb than the ebay junk.

I looked at a lexus is250 in my work garage the other day and didn't seen anything that resembled a flourescent tube. It looked like 2 leds. I will take a closer look tomorrow but I kinda doubt that the CCFL is what the Lexus are using.

I agree.
I have both, an 06 IS250 AWD and an 04TL. I have to say I like the IS more in terms of comfort and refinement. However, the TL is more fun to drive, allbeit the stupid vibrations, which the IS does NOT have. I do like the license plate light on the IS though

Too bad the IS350 didn't come with AWD..

I just bought two 12" Cold Cathode tubes on ebay for $10 shipped. I am going to mess around with the license plate thing and if that doesn't work out I think I am going to mount them up under the dash on the driver and passenger side to light up the floor when I open the door. My Taurus has lights under the dash that light the footwell and it makes it easier to see what's on the floor.

I just bought a pair of tubes, actually the same ones in the link, at fry's for $10. Didn't need to wait for shipping. I mounted both of them inside the plate, and had to take out the plastic covering for the stock bulbs, so its sitting inside the trunk uncover, but its really bright and NICE. Doesnt shine uni-directional like the LED's and make its look A LOT like the lexus lights.

Yea, parallel (sp?). I dont have a camera handy right now, but I'll snap some pictures soon.
Only downside is you have to take out the stock housing so I'm trying to find a clear cover that will prevent large quantities of water from entering. Any ideas? I was just thinking maybe some lexan or something.

Ok well camera pictures is all you will get at this time.

First pic is a straight up shot of the hole where you can see that the clear cover is taken out, and you can see the 2 white tubes behind it.

Second, here you see the same shot, with the tubes on. This is during daytime and its pretty intense at night. =)

I'm trying to find a clear plastic sheet that will cover the stock covering without reducing any light, probably goin to check out some lexan or hobby stores.

No you're totally right, it doesnt make your car go any faster. Neither does the carbon fiber interior trim or the a-spec lip kit...but it sure does make it look hot!
