Legal advice regarding no front bumper?
I live in Ontario Canada and I've been working on my front bumper the past few days so for transportation purpose, I've been driving around with no fasha and the front plate in my window.
I already got a $110 ticket because the front plate was originally in my trunk because I didn't want it to rattle around and scratch my dash or windshield but the officer insisted it be in the front window.
I have been followed multiple times every day since by officers both local Police and OPP for not having a fasha on the front of the car and I just want to know what kind of legal proof I can defend myself with if they try to ticket me again for no fasha and no plate on the front (as its in the window)
So far I can't find anything saying you need a fasha over the bumper rebar and there's nothing that says the plate has to be on the bumper as long as it can be seen from the front of the vehicle.
Officers have actually slammed on the brakes and made u-turns in traffic and on the highway just to follow me and find a reason to pull me over, I don't speed, I don't race, I just drive slow and low and I'm getting sick of being followed by police so I just need information on what I can do to defend myself.
The local police are also crazy, one officer was tailgating me so bad I couldn't see his headlights in any of my rear view mirrors, I don't want them that close to my vehicle, its dangerous to me, them, and anyone else on the road if I needed to suddenly stop.

Are you trolling? If your province requires a front plate, then you need to run a front plate. If you dont and get pulled over and fined then its your fault. Here in the states(if you live in a two plate state) putting it on the dashboard dosent fly. Also it looks sketchy as fuk driving around without a front bumper cover, the cops following you prob think the vehicle is unsafe.

I would much rather take public transportation than drive around with no front bumper and risk getting stopped by the police.
Heck, I would much rather use public transportation to save me embarrassment.

As a LEO I can tell you that driving without a bumper is a risky situation even notwithstanding the ticket issue. If you are involved in an accident and your insurance company gets wind that you didn't have a bumper, first off they won't cover you, and secondly, you'll be sued to kingdom come if someone got hurt, because your car's safety system wouldn't work as it is supposed to and you couldn't prove otherwise because you're missing your bumper.

Section 62 just states they require a bumper, the rebar and impact bumper are still there, I just have the facia removed so I can do work to it.
I can't find anything that says the plate needs to be on the front of the vehicle, it only says it needs to be visible from the front.
Anyway, I've been in the garage all day and in a few more hours I should have all of the fog light wiring done and the bumper back on.
I got pulled over on the way here and he was going to issue another ticket for no front plate and unsafe vehicle.
I insisted that the "bumper" is there, just the outer skin was removed and he couldn't provide me with proof that the plate MUST be on the bumper so I got off on that one but its getting crazy. I'm glad my fog light I stall is almost done so this nightmare can be over lol.
Thanks for the help, the post about section 62 is probably what got me out of a ticket tonight because it says "bumpers" not "facia" so the officer didn't give me a ticket.

It sounds like he's driving around with a bumper, just not the cover. That piece of plastic is not making a difference in an impact, it's only for looks, and the bumper is still there. The plate, it sounds like he either needs to ziptie it to the bumper or put the car back together.
I run fiberglass bumper covers on my other car. Stock was steel but it was thin metal made to cover the actual bumper bar and shocks and does nothing in an impact. I assume running without one at all would be the same functionally but wouldn't look so good.
I don't make it a habit to taunt law enforcement. Usually when someone reports a cop doing something such as riding their rear so close and general harassment, they've left out some details leading up to this.

I had similar issues with my old Mercedes, I remember one officer pulled me over and his reasoning was "you're too young to own a car like this" and then asked if my parents knew I had their car out that late (it was somewhere between 2 and 4am, I can't remember exactly) and he wouldn't believe me that it was mine until I showed him the ownership in my name.
I just got the front all back together, the plate is mounted securely now and won't fall off again, the fog lights are done, just need to wire up a relay tomorrow and the conversion is finally over.
Again, thanks for the help everyone. Got me out of a potential ticket earlier and now the car is all back together.

about 2 years ago I was getting my bumper repainted. I drove around for about a week without a bumper. I had my fender liners zip tied so it wouldnt flap around so much. Let's just say I drove quite a bit during that week. And that includes highways with speeds at least 75mph.
Yes I got a lot of people looking at me weirdly on the highway.
Im pretty sure it is required, but I guess I got lucky.
Looking back, I probably shouldnt have done it, but then I was young at the time.

You're absolutely right, but an insurance company's lawyers would make a large case out of the fact it was not on there and may even win. That's the headache I'm referring to.

You absolutely need a bumper just about everywhere on public roads. I would strive to avoid knowingly driving around without a bumper, thats a bad move.
HOWEVER, most people think the bumper is the painted plastic bit. It's not, thats the bumper cover. You most likely do not require a bumper cover, but of course check local laws. This does not mean you can't get ticketed for it. That really just depends on how knowledgeable the local law enforcement is. It's going to be frowned upon, but likely legal and not a big deal.
Basically, if you don't go unbolting the big metal bit behind the plastic bit, probably fine. And personally, I believe you're more likely to be better off not running a front plate at all over putting it in your front windshield. That's most likely not legal and if anything just highlights your lack of a properly mounted front plate.
