Installing a Type-S cluster into a non Type S?

i was never a fan of the blue/white lights in our stock guage cluster.....and from what i can remember, the TypeS has the amber lighting? (just like the integra type R------had a TypeR before this)

if i swap the cluster, would my mileage reset or is it stored in the ECU? or whatever the typeS cluster has?

i got a low mileage TL and dont wanna mess it up.

hm... Contrary to you, I actually prefer blue/white guages, and rather hated how the red goes with the TL's instruments.

Anyways, I saw the maintainence manual somewhere regarding the instrument cluster. I think it is only a matter of swapping the bulbs. (at least I THINK that is the case for the 04-07 guages) - emphasis on the I THINK... Mileage would not be reset under any circumstances, it is stored in the car's computer itself. I would imagine it to be quite a difficult task to swap instrument clusters, and I highly recommend against doing it on your own unless you have previous experience or really know what you are doing.

Guages on the 04-06 are a different style vs 07-08. I would think the base and type s models can be swapped directly if they are 07-08 models, but it won't be a simple swap if you have an 04-06 model. In particular the MID interface is at a different location and I'm going to venture to guess that the harness connectors will be different as well.

But if you have an 07-08 it should be the same, but I can't say this for 100%. If you do it, please keep us in mind and let us know as there are quiet a few people who are interested in doing this swap and there is not that much info on it. I like the guages on the 07-08 base.

No idea what would happen with the mileage however as long as you have an 07 or 08 I think it would be a plug and play swap. Might look awkward if you only change the cluster without doing all the other blue lights that come on the base TL. Now that I think of it I guess the only other blue lights would be the overhead ambient light and footwell lights. The rings around the audio and volume knobs are blue to. Change those to red to match and it would look cool with the base models white backlit buttons.

cant do it. harness is different and programming is different from the ecu to the cluster and cluster to the ecu. plus the shape and size of all the guages.
preferably if it had silver and blue with white accents or silver and white with blue accents to make it look 04-06 oem id love it and def try to make it fit lol

Thats not true the base gauges and S gauges are identical in shape and size. What are you referring to 07/08 gauges compared to 04-06? In that case your right but the original poster never mentioned anything about year. So im just assuming he means swapping 07/08 gauges for another 07/08 gauge cluster.

That you cant do either. The gauges in all 07/08 TL's are LED lit. Its not a light bulb sittin back there like a 1985 Ford Escort haha.

The miles ARE stored in the cluster, not in the ECU, and the 07-08 Type-S and 07-08 Base gauges ARE swappable. The 04-06 on the other hand, I dont know about.

and you CANT just change the bulbs to get the TypeS red because the base gauges have a blue lens and the TypeS gauges have a red lens.
