I'm about to just re-badge.

Took my badges off and for the life of me can not get rid of the small "ACURA" and "TL" outline scratches off the trunk. Ive read the forums, done the Nu scratch doctor and compound I havent done the clay bar cause that seems pointless all it does is clean the paint, not remove scratches. So frustrating. N O O B.

Sometimes, the hidden paint just can't match the exposed paint.

If you decide to rebadge, at least you know where the emblems go back.

Yeah sounds like its time to put the badges back on. How did it get scratched there? Did you do that removing the badges? Looks better with them on anyway!!

no, no my friend. I got all the "goo" off with WD-40 (GOO GONE WILL WORK SO MUCH BETTER) whats left are thin scratches from the emblems. goo gone wont fix that.

I used a credit card to get the goo off, the scratches are very thin and not visible unless you get up close so they are real light, I didnt do them, its literally an outline of the acura and the tl so the emblems definitely did it. ill have to take a picture tomorrow

When I de-badged I soaked it with Goo-gone and took em off but there's certain areas where the glue is like cement, stuck on the paint.

With the money you would spend on new emblems, you could pay a body shop to buff the scratches out of it. Just ask if they could do it for a little cash. Im sure they would, and it would only take a couple of mins!

^I'm sure it is, as long as you dont let the cloth just sit in one spot. It evaporates too quickly to do any damage in my opinion.

I always use 3M Adhesive and Wax remover when I debadge/remove tape, works like a charm. You just have to clean it good afterwards and reapply wax. Looks much better with out the badges and makes the car easier to wash since there won't always be dirt stuck there.

Emblems don't scratch anything .. they are inert. Something moving on the paint scratched it .. Credit card is not the thing to use to remove the residual adhesive.

Any good detailer should be able to buff them out in a min. or so.

An eraser wheel always works good for me! Just remove the emblems, then use the eraser wheel to remove the adhesive and wipe clean with an adhesive remover, and there it is!

oh snap!

But like stated above maybe a good buff from a deatil shop will help it out! they have special formula that fixies little scratches like your describing.

If not just put everything back. The tl looks good with or without the badges anyways.. good luck buddy.

Is it actually a scratch of just gunk/dirt/residue? That should clean off easily with any kind of adhesive remover.

I just debadged my TL-S last night and had the same problem. Went to the autoparts store and bought Meguire's Scratch X and it came right off!

Agreed. It looks like a thin line of adhesive. Should come off pretty easily with adhesive remover.

I wouldn't trust a body shop to buff anything. They'll hit it with a rotary and a wool pad, then use an oily glaze to hide the swirl marks. Few washes later, trunk covered in buffer trails. I fix a ton of cars every year that dealerships detailers and body shops trash with buffer trails. It's sickening how utterly incompetent 99% of them are.

Use some Goo Gone to remove the adhesive that is left, then use something like Meguiars Ultimate Compound and a microfiber towel to polish the area. Meguairs consumer level products are designed to be used by hand but you do have to use some pressure, it isn't like you can wipe off scratches. Use firm, even pressure, work the polish in for 20 seconds or so, wipe off excess and inspect. Repeat as needed.

In the future, use a heat gun (or park the area with the emblems in the sun for a while) and use fishing line to remove the letters. Then an adhesive remover to get rid of the leftover adhesive, then polish and seal the area.

Yeahhh Im not sure. Ill try the compound again...although it looks as if it is adhesive, I dont think it is. When I run my finger nail across it it dips a bit into it meaning its gotta be a scratch, it doesnt run OVER as if it were a bump of adhesive still on it. Ill try again after work and let you know what i come up with. THANKS

I used a heat gun, fishing line and plastic razor blade and it came off smooth like butter. Then buffed and polished.

I took mine to a detail shop and asked them to buff and polish the trunk in those two places and they charged me 30 bucks. worth every penny and saved me a headache. charged me 20 but I paid 30 cause I'm nice and he was super cool and touched up a couple spots on the spoiler as well.
