It was not from the previous owner. It was from me. The damage was MINOR, and any normal person would have say I'm not paying $250 to get that repaired.

I'm hoping and praying that I can get the old Coverlay off and the new one on OK.

Have you considered to just buy a used dash and install It?

I am on the the lookout for some on eBay, but at $300, it would just crack again. Not to mention the dozens or so hours to change it out..

1) factory replace
2) dash mat and accept that some things about the car won't be perfect.

Would it really be so much an effort to replace?

Concise right Gatr is a man of details, could be worth it. Just mind the temp changes..

It would take me roughly 20 hours for me to replace the dash myself. I have no friends. And I won't accept mediocrity.

From how Gatr describes his distain for the dash cracks, I would go that route in his shoes.

The OEM is remove and rebolt, vs the stress of trying to get the coverlay that was carelessly molded just right. Which it wouldn’t be.

It would bug the hell out of me.

Just tell us when you plan to do it and I’ll be on standby with my phone to help trouble shoot and brainstorm.

its 20 hours install or cursing the dash that will never look OEM.

You'll even learn a lot about your 3G! Good chance to get the dust from the hard to otherwise reach areas.

Maybe J could lend a hand. You both Florida chapter leaders..

I'm removing the old one tonight. If I can get all the old Permatex residue off, I'm also installing tonight...

Gatr would have to remove the restraining order he put on me for snagging his cf interior pieces for that to happen.

It's the OEM CF trim around the shifter.

This time I put 3M double sided tape about an inch away inwards from the sides of the airbag cover. I hope that it does not warp again.

I had a feeling the dash was going to come apart. I have seen it on a few other TL's. On a Mercedes page i'm on, someone leather wrapped their interior and it looks amazing. I'll have to find it. It's still a possible solution to do for the dashboard.

Awaiting after pics! Hope it works out for you this time. I had no idea how aggressive it is to pull the dash cover off and what damage it causes.

It’s because he used glue instead of double sided 3M tape.

ThNks for the pics Gatr, damn that sucks about the chunks, but putting another one on, you can’t and won’t be able to tell.

hope the 3m tape helps solve this. I’ve yet to order one, but my cracks are opening up more and more, and fear for what Gus talked about. Fuck!

If you found two used dashes, I’d be down for a long weekend, and we can do both our cars, DIY. Possible solutions to the flexing as well. Will it work, who knows. Roger555 put rubber o-rings in between dash mounting points to help Eliminate some of the flexing. (From what I remember reading years back).

Guys, this is no longer a viable option for you, but since my dash is all screwed up with the chunks missing and all, it's the only option for me.

I installed the dash last night using Permatex and using the instructions. Everything was hunky dory. I went to drop something off at a local Office Max, and forgot my sunshade. I was just printing a label and dropping it off, so I cracked the window and moon roof, and was only going to be in Office Max for 5 minutes. I repeat, I was in Office Max for 5 minutes, with the windows cracked and moon roof open.

I came back and immediately something was not right. I notice the Coverlay had separated from the glue near the center speaker and the front middle near the windshield. I. Was. Pissed.

So if you have one of these, either don't forget your sunshade or don't get one of these period. They're crap.

Soliciting opinions/options that are not the gay carpeted dash cover.

Although I don't have personal experiences with a cracked dash, a Coverlay would have been my first choice. With the warping issues you've experienced and now that your dash has chunks missing, it seems like a replacement dash would be the best option IMO. I too, hate the carpeted dash covers .

contact acura corporate and ask tell them your story.
at this point, I'm feeling sorry for you.
you had to run in somewhere for 5 minutes and you had to hurry back out.
take a step back and think about how this all sounds.

if gay carpet for a gay guy isn't an option...and you don't want to pay for a dash...
sell the car. this is no way to live.

The dash should not warp if I leave the car for five god-damned minutes from the glue I used and by following the directions. It just should not.

I'm going to see if gluing the upper left corner down on the center speaker hole might work and just leave the front part by the windshield alone.

As I've recommended before, try Automotive Goop if you're going to try and re-glue the thing. It's cheap and if you're willing to try another product, it's worth a shot.

Permatex is strong, but I feel that it has too much flexibility sometimes. Like many, I've used Permatex (not sure if it's the same type of glue) to secure caliper covers on my wife's RDX. Although the caliper covers do not come off and can withstand heat, I found that the covers themselves have wiggle room and it the glue has more of a butyl-ish texture once it "hardens."

I am trying everything that I possibly can, along with letting others know what is happening with mine so that they can get all the info they need to make an informed decision or that they don't have to go through the same thing I am going through.

The glued cured for 8hrs.

I'm going to let the new glue cure for 16 hrs before I take the weight off it.

I have decided not to glue the near the front windshield.
