How to remove XM antenna?

don't want to remove the whole headliner like some threads suggest, is there any alternative to this, i'm going to install the vinyl roof overlay tomorrow, but wanted to remove the white pimple first to make it easier so i don't have to cut around it.

thanks

you will need to remove the headliner since it's screwed/clipped in through the hole there.

^^ i was thinking that i saw somewhere you could pop out the dome lights in the rear and pull down the rear brake light and maneuver a 17mm socket up there. any idea?

15 minutes later and xm antenna is off the car. i didn't remove the headliner, i only removed the dome light fixture and the rear brake light cover. used a screwdriver for the dome light and a 17 mm socket for the bolt that hold the antenna on from the inside, and unclipped the xm from the car. super easy.. pics below

btw where can i order the antenna in black at?

tools required

this is what comes out

picture of dome light and brake cover removed

pic of where the 17 mm bolt WAS at

pic of clip where the xm is plugged into at

picture of dirty roof

^^i scored a black one off of ebay for 20 bucks!! I never saw any conclusive evidence on how to remove the antenna, i just read bits and pieces on it. So i took pics on it to show how easy it was. I will take some pics of the overlay today.. time to get to work~

Vinyl Roof Liner ??? Are you kidding me? I would rather have a dozen "pimples" on my roof than having it in vinyl.

not a roof liner, but an overlay he is going to put onto his roof to make it black...its very common, and looks pretty cool....probably not up your ally, but he is much younger then you so for him its cool...

I's jealous!

Hah. Looks great from a distance.

I was thinking of actually painting the roof black, but this would be a lot better option to keep resale value.

Was the vinyl precut or did you just get a giant sheet somewhere?
If precut, do you mind saying where you got it?

I'll bet it's not vinyl, it's urethane sheet, like a clear bra. It looks very good, and I would hold out for the factory black antenna. When I read the original post my reaction was just like XS2K's: When you say vinyl roof to an old guy like him or me we think you mean the kind of thing your obnoxious uncle had on his Grand Marquis back in '74

why not wrap the xm antenna cover in black vinyl or overlay? Should look exactly the same and save a lot of $$$.

shouldve just painted it thats what i did

painted my roof & antenna blk didnt know how to take off the antenna so i have that lil crease but now thanks to the op ill be taking the antenna off and repainting it looks good though, but painting it brings out the shine more, the overlay looks too dull imo

Use a 12-gauge shotgun with at least number 1 shot. No muss, no fuss.
