How much should a B-1 Service Cost

I have a 2006 TL w/NAV and MT. I live in Naples, FL. They try to get every penny that they can get out of you down here. What is a fair price to pay for a B-1 service? I have 18,300 miles on the car, the message comes on and says that B-1 is due soon and that I have less than 10% of oil life left, and the little engine icon came on today. What does the engine Icon mean?

Thanks

Replace engine oil and oil filter
Inspect front and rear brakes
Check parking brake adjustment
Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box, and boots
Inspect suspension components
Inspect driveshaft boots
Inspect brake hoses and line (including ABS)
Inspect all fluid levels and condition of fluids
Inspect exhaust system#
Inspect fuel lines and connections#
Rotate tires

If you bring it to a reputable shop, and they actually check all these things they may charge you $100.
The check engine light could mean you have an emissions issue, or if you recently refueled, tighten the gas cap if it tells you on your MID.

I have an '07 TSX that needs a B-1 service. Called the dealer and was quoted $167. The price seems a little steap to me, but I have a coupon for the oil change.

When the car is in the air with the tires off, A visual inspection does not take any additional time. $167- is a lot of money for a few quarts or regular grade oil and 1/2 or hour in the service bay. Looking at my tires I don't think that they need to be rotated and would perfer to wait another 7,500 miles. In my opinion anything that goes wrong at 18,300 miles is a matter of warrantee repair, and it is in the dealerships best intrest to look for problems that they can get paid for under warentee repair. Charging me $100- to look at CV Joints and inspect coolent and break fluid levels (a less than 1 minute saftey inspection) makes my blood pressure go into uncharted territory, and makes me feel that I am not being treated honestly and fairly.

Any one know if I need to be concerned with that emissions sensor light? In Florida they do not do any inspections.

Thanks

I paid around $60 at the dealership a couple weeks ago. The tire rotation was $32. I brought my own Oil Filter, which would have been, say, $9.

A "24 Point Inspection" was part of the Oil Change and so was fluid checks and refill on the washer fluid.

How many times are you guys gonna ask this question before you use "search" is the real question? This question has been asked so many times and is probably the topic of another thread just like it within the first 3 pages of 3G.

IMHO- tell the dealer you want an oil change and a tire rotation- that's it i.e. if you don't want to do the work yourself. Should be no more $60-70.00. Your car is still under warranty so they should check the check engine icon for free.

How would you search for b-1 service? I don't think the search will recognize b-1 and only looks for service. Cannot really pinpoint the exact service.

5qts of Mobil1 @ wally-world for $19, Acura filter and plug gasket for ~$9(I bought 5 off of eBay from FlatIron for $25), getting to know the underside of your car and the feeling of closeness to your favorite ride = Priceless.

Went to the dealer this am. Oil life indicator was @ 30%. Specifically, said I only want an oil change and a tire rotation. Paid $61.00. I guess it was a slow morning because they gave me a loaner as well. Fuckers washed my car though even though I told them not to. Oh well. Hope this helps.

I have a 2009 Acura TSX and usually used to like having all service done by dealer only and on time. I plan on keeping the car for a long time and like to take good care of it. A couple of years back it was suggested I go to a Honda dealer instead. I owned three Hondas before my Acura and was very pleased with my previous dealer and service plus it is a lot closer to my house than the Acura dealer where I purchased. I just had B-1 service done today. Before I drove over, I called my Acura dealer and the Honda dealer and was quoted over the phone $82.95 by my Acura dealer and $59.99 by the Honda dealer. Drove over to the Honda dealer (this is express service - no appt. needed - today is very snowy day so they were not busy). I was in and out in less than an hour - turns out tires did not need rotating and were in good condition so the end price was only $39.99. They did all the inspections as listed on the Acura website, topped off all the fluids, oil change, etc. etc. The only time you need to go directly to Acura is if something is a warranty issue or related to a part that Honda may not have access to. I would not get my car serviced anywhere other than Honda or Acura and with the fair prices, why would I? FYI I live in Philadelphia, PA area. Honda dealer is Sloane Honda in NE Philadelphia. Acura Dealer is Davis Acura in Langhorne. I am very pleased with both, but as you see, service costs more at Acura. Rule of thumb, more expensive the car, more expensive their service departments are. (Also, at the Honda dealer - you get a coupon after each oil change and fifth one is free - although Acura's don't need oil changes all that often).
