Heated passenger seat

No lumbar heat in passenger seat? WTF? Why Acura can't solve this problem? Works fine in Lexus.

A "problem" is when something is designed to work a particular way but doesn't.

Since the seat heater works as designed there is no "problem".

Why was it *designed* that way? Acura says it has to do with how the passenger side airbag is designed. Given the choice, I'll take the airbag.

Should it be *re-designed*? Absolutely. It was this way in Gen2 and now Gen3. Hopefully, they'll change it in Gen4.

I was told it had something to do with the sensor in the passenger seat that determines the size/weight of the passenger to de-activate the airbags if they are too small. Some how, that portion of the heated seat membrane would interfere with that.

I am quite sure that the passenger airbag automatic deactivation due to weight is a unique thing to Honda/Acura. Other cars often have a manual deactivation option if you have a child upfront.

Question Airbag Please

Here's the quote from the owner's manual.....

"Both front seats are equipped with seat heaters. Because of the sensors for the side airbag cutoff system, there is no heater in the passenger’s seat-back. "

I'll take the airbag anyday.

I've only used it a couple of times to warm up the leather.
I don't like that "sweaty ass" feeling

My 06 A4 has automatic deactivation of the passenger airbag and the lumbar portion of the seat heats up. Apparently the Germans figured it out.

My 2007 Camry has the same weight sensing feature as the TL... It also has side impact airbags and heated bottom and lumbar for both passenger and driver.

The TL Honda/Acura couldn't accomplish the same feat for whatever reason???

thing is though, i always put my laptop on my passenger seat, and the thing is that it isn't just a weight sensor, because it does not deactivate with it on, but i put my hand on the seat, it does...it's also position, not just weight...

also once my friend was sittin in the passenger seat, and he leaned to the side and it turned off.

as for the geramans figuring it out, the airbag probably don't work properly in the 1st place, but then again in a german car, more than 1/2 the electronics don't work right

With no weight on the seat, the default setting is OFF, even though the light doesn't say so... It would be pretty annoying to look at that light all the time when not driving with passengers.

The weight of your laptop isn't enough to trigger the mechanism... Seats are made for people not laptops and most people being placed in the front passenger seat are heavier than laptops... Pushing the seat with your hand is applying enough pressure, maybe 20-60lbs which is read by the system as a small person and therefore shows the light meaning the airbag system is off.

The light is simply a liability factor... It is there to remind the "responsible adult" driving the vehicle that the lightweight person (more than likely a child) cannot operate the airbag system... it's up to this "responsible adult" to decide what to do next.

Personally, I make the kids ride the backseat, but I do let my 8 year old to ride shotgun now and then in a booster seat... The light comes on when he is there.

no pushing down involved, i just lay my hand on the laptop and the light goes off, even if the laptop is not there it still does, it has some position sensors i guess.

As in, the light is set, i.e. turned on?

If anything, the light should go on with either your laptop or your hand + laptop resting on the seat... I thought you were saying the light is off with just the laptop and then adding your hand (light pressure albeit) the light trips and goes on.

Simple fact is the light is... The light should be indicated if it finds any object within a specific weight. IDK what that is, but it's there to tell the driver, "whatever is there, isn't going to get airbag assistance."

The default setting of OFF when unoccupied still exists, just no light indicating.

Only the driver’s airbag can deploy if
there is no passenger in the front
seat, or if the advanced airbag
system has turned the passenger’s
airbag off
If the weight sensors detect there is
no passenger in the front seat, the
airbag will be off. However, the
passenger airbag off indicator will
not come on.

To ensure that the passenger’s
advanced front airbag system will
work properly, do not do anything
that would increase or decrease the
weight on the front passenger’s seat.

This includes.....

Yep, no one wants them on, even when I offer. As long am I comfortable and warm, it's all good!

I would like to have a heated steering wheel, that will be nice!

PS I never used lumbar option, I think it feels very uncomfortable, what is the primary use for it?
