A Gasoline Discovery - COSTCO !

For years I've been touting Shell V-Power as the best gas, and although that's pretty much the case as most of you here agree as Shell is on the Top Tier list. Just recently, I discovered Costco's (yes, Costco) own brand of gas gives my 12 year old throttle response that's nothing short of astounding!

Last night when I was there filling up, I asked the attendant what it was about their gas that makes my car run so much better. He claimed a lot of people are saying the same thing nowadays about Costco gas. He said first of all, they have most additives, 5X the EPA minimum of detergents. Secondly, every morning when they check the tanks underneath, they clean them out if they happen to discover water or some other kind of shit got in there. How many stations do that? What's cool is you don't even have to be a Costco member to buy gas!

I'm now a Costco believer and it's the ONLY place I'll buy my gas from now on.

My

Costco has been Top Tier for at least the last 5 years, probably longer.

As far as any detergent additive package or amount of additive causing an immediately noticeable change in throttle response: me thinks the old butt dyno is feeling things

The attendants here swipe a member card they keep on them.
Just driving in with any valid credit or debit card gets you gas!

In the Los Angeles area, Costco's gas is usually cheaper than every other brand's gas, and often $0.20+ cheaper per gallon than major brands.

The savings from lower gas prices covers Executive Membership and then some-- and pays for fuel for me like the $1.50 hot dogs.

And yes, Costco's gas has been Top Tier for a while now.

I usually get Costco gas...but it's about 10 miles from me. They're building a new one about 4 miles from me, so I'll be going there to get gas either early morning or at night....

Today Costco gas was 2.31... Am/pm was 2.47 and shell was 2.71.. All 87.

Timing is everything . There are some days I breeze through. Usually early sat or sun morning. Also for gas, most people with right hand gas fillers don't realize the hose is long enough that you can pull up to a pump that's on the left of your car. So the lines for those are short or non existent. Just pull the hose to reach. Pull up a little further so you don't have the hose hanging over the trunk too much. Never had any issues with the hose contacting the car either.

I have been a fan of Costco gas for about a year. There is usually about .20c difference for regular and .30-.40c for premium between Costco and other gas stations.
Even when using credit cards that have 3-5% cash back on gas, it just does not calculate to go somewhere else.

The only downside to filling up at Costco are the long lanes. I have never been able to pull directly into a gas pump and start pumping gas. The 3 gas stations that I frequently go to, no matter if it is noon, 4-5pm or 7-8 pm, I always end up waiting good 3-5 mins or more before pumping gas.

I think Costco uses a completely different gas up here in Canada. At least where I live, the half dozen times I filled up with Costco gas, I've noticed worse fuel economy every single time, as compared to when I use Shell V-Power. I'm guessing that Costco just has a different supplier up North for their petrol.

Shell all day!! My tuner even noticed when I used anything besides shell

But I do put Costco gas in my wife's civic. Gas is always open later than the store so I just go after the store is closed.

I've used Costco fuel for years in both the Type S and the Stingray. Plus, their Premium fuel is usually about 20 cents more than Regular. Everywhere else is usually about 40 cents more than Regular.

We use Costco, HyVee, or QT gas only....just depends on where we are. QT and HyVee are about a mile from the house while Costco is about 12 miles away. Lucky for us there is never a line at the Costco pumps when we are there. The biggest perk of our HyVee station is the 91 octane is Ethanol free. Usually at Costco we have the wife's Terrain so it is rare the TL gets fueled up there.

I was unaware that Costco fuel was considered a top tier fuel. I may have to try it out for a couple hundred miles in my wife's TL-S.

13. Can I advertise that I am better than TOP TIER if I use 5x the EPA detergent concentration?

The TOP TIER program is not just about a higher detergency rate. It is a robust engine cleanliness and performance specification. Merely adding more detergent does not necessarily mean a fuel is better. Fuel marketers can meet the TOP TIER specification requirements and offer TOP TIER certified gasoline by using approved additives at approved treat rates and becoming licensed.
