G-088: DIY: Clear TailLights
These lights are TL-S 07 Tail lights outside housing modded with the clear corners and brake light cover/reflectors for the 04-06 TL Tail Lights:
Things You Need:
TL-S 07 TailLights & 04-06 TailLights
Dremel Plastic Cutting Wheel
Plastic Epoxy ... I used 5 bottles
Patience .... evry scratch will show!
Here is the dremel cutting wheel
Here is the epoxy I used, dont mix to much at one time it starys setting up in 7min.
Be carefull when cutting wear eye protection this is my faceshield:
The first cut you will need to make is along the portion of the light the you can see when opening the trunk
This will give you starting points for the sides
Now just cut all the way aroun the light being care full to stay where these cuts are:
Now befrore you do anything unscrew the two screws on the light:
Here is where the patience comes in, be very carefull pulling this apart if you feel that any one part dosent have some wiggle to it you may have to go over your cuts...you should be able to see the red plastic inside the cut. Again every scratch will show so take it easy.
Start with trying to get the trunk edge up and out then slidding the crome trim out of the clear plastic houseing:
Now this is where i got brut on my 05 red tail lights, no need for cutting gently i wasn't keeping them:
This made life a hole lot easier, although i was still carefull not to damage the clear parts i was eventually going to use.
Now after taking the 05 tail light clear parts and putting them together with the 07 tl-s dark crome trim i started sliding the into the tl-s07 clear housing pointy side first:
after you have the trim in place you can screw the back together beging carefull not to move the light, you still have to epoxy it together.

I have a Satin Silver TL with cleared headlights, 07 tl-s rear side markers, all side markers moded with white leds. Im looking to put the switch back tower led's form autolumination up front, i am undesided on what to use for the rear turn signals. I am thinking red or amber led towers. Any advise on what would look best? i wish i could use white lights allaround but in ny it is illegal.

In this link you can see the Infinity FX clear tails..they do have a red reflector... i guess to be legal i will have to mount a "red reflector somewhere on the rear of the car............Im leaning somewhere on the lower end of the car like the china tl has.....what do you guys think?

The Infiniti, just like the Lexus RX, has the reflectors on the rear bumper...the ones in the pic are side reflectors, I believe.
AZEUSTL05 - awesome write up!! I can't wait to see pics of them on your car.

"Insert the red reflector in the lower part"
the glue is long dry..........besides i love the look of the lights the way they are; I am probally going t keep the lights and the car as is and roll the dice.....how bad could the ticket be anyway, if anyone notices the lack and need of a red reflector.

As to how much more info i can share; i think the diy shows just about all you need........The main thing is taking the time to cut and take apart the TL-s lights.
Just that part alone took a little over three hours.
There are some more steps i am going to post once i mout them; ie: removing / not getting glue in spots that prevent flush fittment.
As for doing this mod for others i wish i had the time but the wife and kids are complaing about the time moding mine.
i will try my best to answer any questions posted.

I've been Canonized ;)
WOW! I guess youth has it advantages when modding. I would never cut into my tail light w/ a dremmel. I did notice that all who responded favorably were below 35 yrs. of age.
Personally....I like the red against the white background (WDP). The contrast between the two seems...simple....clean. The "cleared" tails are on everything now-a-days. Not my thing, but I can't help admire the verocity of those here that attack a mod with reckless abandon.
I use to do that too....some time ago

As mentioned before, those were some impressive Dremel cuts. I bet you had one hell of a cutting wheel to make cuts so clean.
I think this is going to look outrageously hot on your SSM, especially with the fronts already cleared out. I can't wait to see the pics of this.
Hopefully you're able to find bulbs/LEDs that light up sufficiently (for safety AND for ticket-avoidance purposes).
