Front Brake Pads
It's almost time to replace my factory pads on my 08 Type S. Any suggestions for pads that offer more bite and less brake dust? TIA

There will always be a compromise.
you just need to figure out what is more important to you.
better initial bite?
or low dust and noise.
a pad that will have great bite will produce dust and noise.
a pad that is designed to have less dust and noise will compromise the initial bite.
Most of us opt for a ceramic pad that doesnt produce MAJOR dust while still maintaining a decent bite.
but again, if you want a pad that has a different compound other than ceramic, YOU're ASKING for dust.
a freshly washed car with brake dust on the wheels LOOK HORRIBLE.
like, the first 10 mins your wheels will be covered in dust.

The ProActs are great on my 5AT TL-- they leave less dust than stock, are quiet and have never come close to fading.
However, OP has a Type-S which has Brembo calipers.
Akebono has Performance Pads (also ceramic) for the TL Brembos, but not ProActs.
I assume OP wants to try something other than the stock Brembo pads, which do leave more dust.

Not sure whether long-term price is a factor for the OP, but I feel it's worth mentioning that with Duralast CMAX pads, you buy them once and then you never have to buy them ever again.
Changed my brakes about a month and a half ago and took the old set to AutoZone, and they gave me a brand new set of front and rear pads. Not having to pay for new pads every time you change them means that it becomes a zero-cost maintenance item.
I've never had any problems with the Duralast Cmax pads, even though they have the downsides to a ceramic, driving all over the west each year and stopping the car in -30 snowdrifts every single year that I've owned my TL. I see no reason for me to change, but that's just me.

I had experience in the past with SCCA any pad offer you dust less isn't offer the intial bite you looking for. This is a no no in race track (I found out after realizing losing to another car during corner braking). Track pads is so dirty/noisey but they offer really good bite.
rule of thumb is what you really want? performance or less dust. I perosally think that I don't need to brake hard as during race track therefore CMAX is good enough for me and the OEM pads is way too dusty and yet the bit isn't anywhere close to the TRACK pads offer.

I have the Akebono Performance Pads (Tire Rack: $76 for the front, $57 for the rear) and love them. No noise, no visible dust, very linear braking but a little less initial bite than the OEM pads. I've had them for several thousand miles and love them. They are very strong.

Just purchased my new front pads and rotors, I went in a little bit of a different direction and purchased Hawk HPS pads and their brand new Sector 27 rotors. The reviews on the HPS pads are excellent but I'm taking a chance with the rotors as they just came on the market with little to no reviews.
I won't be making the swap until the spring along with changing out the fluid and will chime in then with my thoughts.

IMO, nothing compares to the OEM. I'll be going back to OEM at my next pad change, maybe sooner.
For my first (and only, so far) front pad change, I went with the RB ET300s. I'm satisfied with them, but the OEM pads are a step above the ET300s IMO.
The good: zero dusting, great wear, decent performance. I have 100K miles on the ET300s and they are only half worn, if that!!
The bad: don't perform as well as the OEM pads and some noise at times.

I have to disagree, if cars came from the factory with thehighest quality and best performing parts the cost would be far beyond what most could afford. Also, if that were the case there would be no need for aftermarket part manufactures.

There are probably more threads on brake pads on this forum than anything except maybe oil. (Which makes this thread just another redundant thread among hundreds of brake pad threads). I challenge you to find one post where someone thought AM pads performed BETTER than the OEM pads.

Ask yourself this question: Why would you want SS brake lines? If you don't know (like me), then the answer to your question is "NO".
Improved pedal feel (this is a bit subjective) and longevity are two "advantages" of SS lines. They won't improve stopping distance one bit and if you're going to sell your car in a few years, the longevity issue is null. So then you're down to whether improved pedal feel is worth the price...

Why waste our time when you've already done the research by reading those reviews yourself? Since you've been over there, please tell us which pads (according to the Tire Rack or AutoAnything reviews) perform better than Brembo OEM pads with less dust?

Not to be that guy but reviews are just people and their experiences. How many of those reviews are from mechanics or people that compare OEM to aftermarket (stopping power/distance stopping/different circumstances) and really put the pads to the test.

I see so many people posting ebay rotors for cheap and how they're great, but I have seen ebay rotors literally crack or break apart from heat or abusive use. Now how much credibility do those reviews have? It comes down to success rate/dynamics of how they're made and how long they last.
Think about this, we own an acura, I'm sure acura wouldn't put a crap pad on a car in hopes of customers coming back to get new pads or have premature wear..
That goes for suspension too, we live in a competitive world and most don't know that many suspensions are made by the same manufacturer. Did you know that d2 and k sport are one in the same? Or how many times I replace shocks from blown function and form type 1's.
Most people don't post reviews or sometimes companies websites are set up that they can delete comments so how fair is that to not be able to see the negatives?

Initial bite is there, great stopping, very low dust.
I don't know what the difference between ProACT and ASP are?

I had the Posi-Quiet Metallic pads, GARBAGE! They made tons of noise the 1st few thousand miles and then at about 7K made the wheels blacker than the ace of spades. Their rotors on the other hand have help up well.
