So, learned something recently that appears to be a hidden feature not explained within the owner's manual (2006).

I un-clipped my sun visor and it began to slide off, like it was coming off the arm / rod it's inserted over. Thought, "great, another item to buy." Then I realized it kinda hit a stop after it was extended a bit, then I tried it on the passenger sun visor.

Had no idea the sun visors extended to cover more sun, could've used this feature many days in the past ...

I had to pull on the passenger sun visor a bit to un-stick itself from apparently this feature never being used for nearly 10 years.

Honestly, how many of you guys knew this feature existed, it certainly wasn't an apparent feature for the owners.

Search for "sun" or "visors" in your owner's manual...zilch info about this feature.

X2.

I can't even begin to think how many times the sun just sneaks to the left of the visor when I have it on the driver's side window.

Thanks

One of the first features I accidentally found out when I test drove the car. Meant to pull it, but somehow ended up pulling it out to extend too.

And I can't even begin to tell you how many times I tried putting it back while it was extended and hit myself in the head....

On a similar note, I accidentally discovered the storage compartment on the driver's side door extends outward for larger items. At first I thought I broke it, then I thought that's a neat little feature...

I just found out the side mirrors tilt down in reverse when you leave the switch on left or right. I usually adjust my mirrors and then place the switch to the centre position afterwards.

I do the same thing. Mine's an 04 and Ive noticed that if I accidentally push the 1 memory setting more than once my driver side mirror does some kind of weird reverb thing where its assumably trying to get to the set position over and over again. Although this feature sound great, and I love finding new things about my TL, think I'll just leave them where they are lol

huh? I thought truonghthe was just poking fun at the TL's heavy door that it always try to slam shut no matter how wide you open the door.

Anyways, great find OP. Never thought that extends.

A little context could've went a long way. I've never felt as if my driver's door was going to close automatically.

I had an Accord that developed a broken door catch and it would close at will.

Is yours broken?

Apologies

My wife complains all the time about the automatic closing door. I like to time it so I never have to push it shut. It's because the door is heavy and the notches in the door link aren't that pronounced so it tends to shut if the door isn't held just right when opening it

justnspace had a thread if I remember on how to eliminate its tendency to shut easily. This isn't a feature but just a bad design.

That thread linked above is super helpful to anyone that is new to the car! I remember looking at it way back and loved finding those features

Monkeytrucker, by design the doors have an easy close feature.

there are two resting points for the door, a narrow opening and a wide opening.

if the door does not rest at either of these two points, the door will close.

this is due to the "door checker"

BY design:

we've found that you can replace the TL's door checker with an Accord's.

Accord VS TL

Accord Checker installed:

I havent done it myself, but others say that it resolves the issue of it closing on you, as it doesnt rely on those 2 resting points I talked about earlier.

Yeah, I said I replaced one of those on an Accord. I've never felt that the TL door was going to close on me though, if it were to do that on me, I'd replace the same part I replaced in the Accord, the "catch" similar to the image you posted.

^so, what most are referring to, is that they dont "catch" the door on the resting points and the door closes on their legs.

so, if this doesnt apply to you or you've learned to overcome the TL's self closing door feature, please disregard

try adding a bunch of sound deadener to it...it almost chopped off my head once when i parked on an incline! but that would have been worth it for my improved bass haha
