Factory Fast: Acura TL A-Spec vs. Volvo S60 R
I just discovered this interesting comparo in R&T 10/04 which can be viewed on line at http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....&page_number=1
The cars came out very similar in performance stats and R&T gave the nod to the TL A-SPEC (and not just because it's less expensive).
Their conclusion "The S60 R is a testament to how good a car Volvo can build. Its all-wheel-drive system is a huge benefit in any kind of low-grip situation, and we much prefer it versus trying to put 300 bhp through the front wheels. The stock Acura TL is great in so many ways, and only enhanced with the A-Spec options. We'd ask for even more power from the A-Spec, but question the intelligence of that with its current drivetrain layout. If there ever was a car begging to be rear- or all-wheel drive, the TL is it.
Because these two cars work so well, yet are so different, it makes it really difficult to pick a winner. But we're picking one anyway, and it's the Acura. While we're not thrilled when the steering wheel tries to jerk out of our hands powering out of tight, bumpy corners, we'll deal with that to get its smoother, more lusty engine, better gearbox and more responsive handling. That it costs less and looks better makes it that much more appealing."
But we all knew that...
