DIY 3G TL C-Mod Grill Swap

I got my C-Mod grill a few months ago and finally had a chance to put it on. I did some research and found a few install tips but couldn't find any pictures. So for anyone interested in doing this swap I have a few pictures for reference.

Open hood and remove all covers, forgot pictures for this, pretty easy to figure out. This is what you will see once covers, molding, and OG grill is removed.

Now for the fun part, cutting the OEM grill off! I decided to leave the entire lip that the molding covered, just in case the C-Mod grill needed extra support, which it ended up providing. Either way I decided to cut less then if I needed to I would cut the rest.

I put the grill in place and made marks for the clips, then drilled holes.

I added some silicon to the existing lip and to the bottom of the new grill. Im happy with the fit. It helps to have it painted OEM.
Hope this helps!! Next is changing lower grills to match the mesh on the C-Mod grill.

Nice, it looks good! I've got the same grille on my SSM but didn't color match it. Did you do anything special to get a good fit, mine has a minor gap on the bottom, but could only be seen if right next to the car. I was thinking about modifying the mesh to silver, but that would be a big project

I think it would look better if you mounted the 'A' in the grill. Looks too empty without it

On a side note, does anyone have any knowledge as to how to paint the mesh? Would primer and enamel paint hold up well? Going for a metal look

I think it would make my and OP's grill look alot better

I like it. I've been thinking about doing something similar but haven't taken the plunge yet. I'm a little afraid of doing something like this since it's obviously not reversible. It could only help airflow though, which I'm all for

Just buy different mesh, that mesh would be a PITA to prep and paint.

You can get some powder coated stuff.

I used this stuff:

http://www.customcargrills.com/prodd...od=Diamond_XXL

In the powder coated black, they have other options too.

Here's a pic of mine when I first did it:

I've since gotten a nice sized rock chip on it, need to remove and repaint it which is actually pretty easy now.

I've also wrapped the gray bottom piece of the A-Spec underspoiler with gloss black vinyl now as well.

I did a write-up as well, but didn't include any pics of where I cut on the bumper.

One more pic hah!

I painted it myself out of a rattle can, original thread I did is here:

When lining it up and marking holes I put some pressure on the grill and tried to get it in place as best I could before marking for the tightest fit. The silicon was just a precaution I don't think it made much of a difference.

I actually tried that and I really didn't like the way it looked, it seems too big for the grill. Plus IMO it defeats the whole purpose/design of this grill. I plasti-dipped the 'A' and put it on just to see and I didn't like it. I'll post a pic later.

Very nice job on the lower grills mzilvar!!

I just placed it on the grill. Its pretty deep in the grill IMO it looks out of place, again not really into the look.

I don't think you needed to cut off nearly the entire assembly.... just the cross bar.

I think the floating A looks great on the 'shark mouth' grille... but not on the C-Mod grille. The C-Mod grille makes the trimming much thicker looking versus stock.

No such thing as pnp grille as the cross-bar is molded into the bumper itself

Now with the new grill, its easy to remove the TL anchor right below the inside bumper grill, its about 10 pounds and will make your car a little quicker

Did you paint your grill yourself or have it professionally painted?

Thanks, those were the biggest PITA out of the whole job.

They're actually painted now as well, I had to carefully trim, sand & clean them then hit them with bulldog, primer (let cure 24 hours) then wet sand them, clean again, tack cloth, then enamel gloss black paint & CC.

What anchor?!
I had it painted by a body shop after a fender bender, I asked the guy to install it but he said it wouldn't work. Think he was afraid of cutting the OG grill.

The C-Mod would definitely not fit over the bottom or the sides of the existing grill. I tried to keep as much as possible but for it to fit everything had to be cut out:

Damn that sucks you had to cut that much. I actually had no idea, thought the C-Mod just sat ontop the OEM grille.

I bought mine here:

http://www.customcargrills.com/

That's the one I used is the diamond XXL in powder coated black, they have other styles as well.

One sheet (12in x 48in) is enough to do all three pieces up front and the type-S rear underspoiler (if you have it) with the mesh.

You could sand the lower vents after doing them, I decided to paint since I didn't want to be sanding in a progression forever to get them to have some form of gloss as opposed to looking dull. Definitely is a spot prone to rock chips though, I'm going on a year now though and only have a few nicks from rocks in them.

I need help! I finally got the balls to cut my grill and it turn out okay. When I put the c-mod grill on it, it look great. I look at the back and it look good. But when I look down in the front I see a gap. How can I fix this?

Do I need to trim this part too to fix the gap?
This what it looks like after I cut off the center.

Shark Mouth Grill Problem

Hey everyone I still a little noob when it come to modifications and stuff. Anyway I bought the shark mouth grill from endlessrpm and I balls up and cut my center grill. When I test fit the shark grill it fit but then I looked down and saw a little gap. How can I fix that? I'm trying to get it done asap so my friend can paint my whole bumper with it.

Here the picture of how I cut it.

Am I suppose to cut this part off too for it to fit correctly?

Btw before anyone tell me to go look at other people forum on here on how to do it I just wanted say I did. I look up as many forum about this as possible before I did it.

Make sure you buy the right grill for your bumper from endless. They offer one for 04-06 and 07-08. The bumpers and grills are different and they are not interchangeable

I know this is old, but for what it's worth, I bought an 04-06 shark mouth grill from EndlessRPM as well. I made sure to order the correct year. I'm currently trying to get my grill to fit and it's not working either. There is a pretty noticeable gap along the whole bottom portion of the grill. I'm getting pretty annoyed right now.

I can try to take pictures tonight if anyone is interested. Has anyone else had issues with this? It's almost like the grill needs to be dropped like 1/4 of an inch.
