The definitive LED thread: All you'll ever need to know about LED's 3G Garage #G-076

Hey guys, I'm sort of new to the community and still have my stock TL. Changing the lights will be my first "mod" so i'm kinda excited. I have alot more listed as my wishin' and dreamin' list but i'm starting off with the lights =D

I looked at many posts regarding to this matter and alot of them were outdated so i would like to know what you guys are using currently for the lights since new lights come out everyday (specially you kennedy!) and where ya got em from.

- Interior dome lights
- Side door lights
- Vanity mirror lights
- License plate lights
- Trunk Lights
- Reverse Lights

I have 07 NBP type s so i was thinking if i should go with red interior but decided not to because i saw some posts saying that its not bright (defeats the purpose of the int light) and it can be scary / annoying after awhile so i think i'll go with a white.

But for side door lights, should i go with white or red? what do you guys think? =D

and THANKS in advance guys sorry for bringing this old stuff again - but hope it'll help me out as well as other noobies that just joined the community!

MOD EDIT: TYPE-S front blinkers are 1157 NOT 7443. This only pertains to the type-s

I'd say go with the white bulbs.

Bought my lights from superbrightleds.com and I'm pretty satisfied. Theyre not as bright as I wanted them to be, but the price was great and they were delivered fast.

I used the WLED-WHP lights on mine and really like them. I would probably do the SMT towers from autolumination or V-LED for the vanity mirrors and trunk just B/C they have a wider light pattern. The WLED-WHP lights are direct out the end of them.

I used 12 LED 921 blue bulbs in the doors.

I think it changes from month to month. As manufacturers get better at creating more compact brighter bulbs, we change what we want.

I know some have had good luck with the following.

Turn signals - 27 LED cluster from V-LED
Backup lights - 18 LED cluster from V-LED
Plate lights - 194 SMT towers from V-LED, I think Kennedy used the "supernova" from autolumination
Console/Glove box - #74 HP from Superbright LED ( I have these and Like them)
Doors - Either 9 or 12 LED cluster

Jan - 2008. The definitive LED thread.

LED technology is ever evolving. I've changed my setup a bit. Here's where I'm at today:

- 4 interior dome lights:
www.superbrightleds.com - WLED-WHP

- 2 Side Door light - Pick your favorite color
921-x12 LED Wedge Base Bulbs
www.superbrightleds.com

- Vanity Mirror:
www.superlumination.com - SMT Towers
http://superlumination.com/images/au...94smt_w_wm.jpg

I may swap these out eventually with a downfacing PCB board LED like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/1pc-T10-T15-W5W-...QQcmdZViewItem

But they're f'ing pricey. These would be great in the trunk and license plate lenses as well.

- License plate lights:
www.superlumination.com - SuperNova
http://superlumination.com/194.htm

Same LED at 1/2 price:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2x-25...spagenameZWDVW

Again... I think these downfacing PCB LEDs would be great in the license plate lens:
http://cgi.ebay.com/1pc-T10-T15-W5W-...QQcmdZViewItem

- Trunk:
Same as Vanity. Thinking of switching to:
http://cgi.ebay.com/1pc-T10-T15-W5W-...QQcmdZViewItem

I'm actually thinking I'm going to install a supplemental LED light bar to really light up the trunk.

- Reverse LEDs:
I was using the same leds as the Vanity/Trunk here, but have since upgraded-
www.v-leds.com - 18 SMT - BOMBS!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-WHI...spagenameZWDVW

- Front Turn Signals:
7443 V-Leds 36 SMT with chrome bezel

- Rear Turn Signals:
7443 V-Leds 27 SMT
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-AMB...spagenameZWDVW

See how fast the technology moves...

Recent update from Rockyfeller as of today:

For the turn signals - Switchbacks:
another option for those who want white running lights and at the same time have amber turn signals in a single dual circuit led bulb... in a PnP version:
(the old version required dremeling your headlight housing, and had a kind of a purple hue to it due to the high flux white 3mm leds used)

http://autolumination.com/7443_7440.htm
SCROLL DOWN

Here's how it works:

i wish they made those switchbacks for just the 3 high powered LEDs pointing forward. I dislike the side firing led's cause the reflections make everything fuzzy.

Fyi, i'm trying to buy all my leds from v-leds if possible from now on. Think they have better quality and arent just a 'reseller'

I got a set of their license plate LEDs and they are...frickin bright

Kennedy-It says the new 20LED Switchbacks require cutting as well because it is still 1" in width?

Is that right?

Sort of. The 20 LED version is the old style that requires cutting. It's been updated too though, hence the name, switchback tower II- but it's still the same old tower.

The 30 led switchback tower III should fit with no cutting.
Note: The 7443 switch back has a standard 3/4" diameter head to match all standard 7443 housings.

To be correct, it's in Parallel... but yes.

I don't like em though. They chew up more electricity than stock bulbs, and create lots of heat. I'd be wary of using my parking hazards with resistors for fear of the battery drain.

I like the rapid flashing anyway. It's more attention getting, and with an all LED setup, looks pretty cool as the "drag" you get with bulbs is gone.

If you go all LED, try em out without resistors and see if you like it... I'm used to it and like it now.

Kennedy, do all turn signals (front and rear) rapid/hyper flash at the same speed with hazard on?

My old car used to have an indicator on the bezel when a light was out. Would running these without the resistor cause the same "problem"?

Honda's way of telling you a blinker is out is to make it blink 2X as fast as normal on the side it's out. There's no other "dash indicator". Go unplug a blinker bulb and you'll see.

Running LEDs causes this rapid blinking as the LEDs don't require as enough wattage to tell the ECU that the bulb is there.

The solution is to leave as is... or install those resistors. My opinion on those is noted above... but many others are running them without issue.

Thanks Kennedy

I would just like to say thanks man, I changed all my lights except for my turns last spring in my 07 Type-S, and I love them. I really want to change my turns, but did not feel confident enough to put in the resistors without screwing something up. But after reading your opinion on the switchbacks, I think I will put'em in minus the resistors and go with the hyperflash. Are they easy to install otherwise? Have not really messed around with the housing for the headlights much. And FYI to anyone who wants to replace their stock fogs, I have the HOEN Endurance, they are awsome if you want that JDM yellow look. Thanks again man.

Pharmduq... Directions for changin your front turn signal is in the owners manual. Not hard, just gotta get at from the fender well.

evnash. I have those in my interior right now. Changing them back to the superbrightleds version today. They're inconsistent in color, and don't use the reflector as well as the ones above.

What is vanity mirror light? By the way is it true that too much LED can cause the housing to burn? Does LED last longer? By the way do you know how to install these lights cause I might need help. Where did u buy ur LEDs?

Dude, seriously, search a little. The LED thing has been beat to death. There are about 2.5 million posts (ok not really that many) on AZ about what everyone is using and where the got them.

Here are the top 3 (not in any particular order)

V-LEDs.com
Autolumination.com
superbrightleds.com
