Well folks I appreciate and respect all of the knowledge once again.

Instead of getting to 5w-20 syn which I thought was acura recommended I have 5w-30 syn and a FREE OIL CHANGE next time. I talked to the service manager...Sterling McCall Acura...and he was very, very understanding and explained their thinking to me. He even told me they will start carrying 5w-20 in stock. (Because of me???) Anyways, I get a free oil change with Mobil1 Syn next time so I'll run this batch a good 5k and be done. Props to the service department for being customer friendly. Freaking out is beneficial sometimes...

P.S. about 5K, slight center channel speaker rattle, but no butt-prints and a lot of sitting. 6'2" 235lb...the 6-speed tranny rules!

Now, all you need to do is to change your MTF to Specialty Formulations Synchroglide if you haven't done so already.

Yes, I'll now endorse a thinner transmission fluid myself since I've done enough to research to confirm that starting out with a thinner fluid wouldn't be a bad idea if Honda MTF shears so badly in the first place, its somewhat similar to the 5w-30 vs. 5w-20 theory, if 5w-30 is going to shear into a 20wt anyway, why not start out with a shear stable 20wt in the first place???

I recommend Specialty Formulations Synchroglide since it is a direct replacement for the GM Synchromesh fluid and is a better fluid for the particular application. Pricing is roughly the same, plus or minus $2/quart. Specialty Formulations Synchroglide is $42.70/gallon shipped for most places.

There seems to be WAY too much concern on this thread over "detrimental" consequences of using 0W-20, 5W-30, 10W, etc on the engine when the cap says "5W-20". From what I have heard from multiple sources the only reason the manufacturer has a "recommended" viscosity is so they can comply with the government for providing an oil grade that gives the best fuel economy for that particular engine. Your engine will not blow up or leak oil if you use 10W in it instead of a 5W nevermind nitpicking over subgrades within a grade (5w20 vs. 5w30). Having an oil in the engine that is a higher viscosity than the "recommended" at most will cause harder starting in cold climates. But, other than that there is just a negligible difference in engine performance (fuel economy) that will not even be noticible at the pump. Obviously it is not wise to put heavy SAE 30 or 40 in the engine as this is VERY thick oil and may actually impact the engine seals which were not designed for such thick oil. But, anything in the 0W, 5W or even 10W will not harm the engine at all.

The recommended oil for the 2007 RDX is Mobil 1 in 5-30 weight!! Plus only Mobil 1 can pass the latest oil test (HTO-06). Go to the section on this site that lists the Acura service bulletins and look at July 2006 bulletin for more details. As new oils are packaged this new spec will be printed on the bottle.

I'm sure that rarely happens with acura customers. We're so easy going, unpicky, and tolerant as long as the dealer fixes every. single. scratch, noise, color problem, smell, funny feeling that something isnt quite right, but we cant put our finger on it...

Mobil 1 does make 5W20- says Ford and Honda approved on the label

I've been using Mobil 1 (5W-30) since my first oil change at 4000 miles. NO problems and I'm sticking with 5w-30.

I don't like Mobil-1. I use Castrol Synthetic.
