DE-BADGED..... 3G Garage #E-016

Just a question for all you seasoned owners.... Can all the badges on the rear decklid be taken off?!?!? Or are some of them/all of them screwed in?!?!?! LOL I know that on my Audi all of the parts came right off.... but this is my first import.... so the question when I get them off will there be big holes?!?!?!

Thanks in advance./////

PS if any of you have pictures of your rears (no not your arses) without badges.... I would love to see.

The ACURA and TL badges are easily removed. I used dental floss to run under the badges, but you can use anything similar. The middle badge is held in by two bolts, so you can only remove it if you want to do some body work.

There are pictures in this thread:

Good question, and I'm glad to hear the answer.

But, since when is an Audi not an "import" (and for the record, the TL is built in Ohio).

If you like, first you can heat them by a hair dryer to make the glue soften, then use dental floss (as Ron A suggested above), work underneath.

This is what I did... and I think it looks better without them... besides, as popular as my car has gotten... I actually thought the keyfob stopped working because it wouldn't open the trunk, until I looked two spaces to the left and saw MY car... :sqnteek:

If you debadge the rear you've got to debadge the front. The "A" logo in the grill is removable; please post pics when it's done.

has anyone debadged their TL and had second thoughts? If so, what kind of glue did you use to put the logos back on?

Zaino Rebadge ZR-5 Adhesive works the best.

I used liquid nails on a Ford Probe - but I don't think I'd risk using it on a TL.

I'm a new owner (3 weeks) and forgot to ask the dealer to omit the dealership sticker. It's a clear decal immediately above the "ACURA" badge on the trunk lid. I've been afraid to try to take it off so far. Any insight on how to take it off?

The plastic decals are easily removed with a fingernail. I removed my dealer sticker, and the stripes on both sides of the car, with my fingernail doing all the separating, and not a mark on the car. I don't think you can damage the paint with a fingernail, especially if you go at an angle and only scrape the sticker or stripes.

Zaino rebadge ZR-5 is an epoxy and can be used to put the headliner velcro back on, so it should work holding the badges, but you would never be able to remove them without an air hammer and chisel. lol

If you change your mind, go to any body shop and ask them if you can have a little of what they use. You would need so little that I don't think there would be any charge.

I have some 3M black double sided sticky tape, it is soft and easy to use, and I use that to reattach emblems, so you could look for that in a parts store or body shop supply store. It is too thin so I double it up and it works great.

Don't bet on it, if cars were rated by geological scales, our paint would be Talc. I HAVE already scratched the paint with my fingernail, and although I drink a lot of milk I don't think my fingernails are all that hard...

I just read another post about scratching with a fingernail, so If I recommend using a fingernail again, I wil qualify it with a disclaimer that I am not responsible. Just kidding, but this is bad to hear, and luckily I didn't scratch mine,

Does debadging your car lower its resale value or will it effect trading it into a dealer down the long run or anything?

When I traded my Benz in for this car I took the stuff off the back like "C280" and the dealer didn't say anything to me about it....

new badges only cost a couple of dollars and are self-adhesive - how could it possibly have any impact on resale value?

The orgin of debadging is from the autobahn. People in V-12 BMWs and Benzs or M/AMG cars, would take off their badges to fool people into thinking they had a slow car.

This then caught on with people that bought I-6 S-classes and 318 BMWs who wanted people to think they bought the more expensive 600 or say 325, etc

This is really weird as the TL is only offered with one engine. So clearly it is for a cleaner look on the rear. I say leave the badges, as the rear looks Galantish to me.

Goo Gone is highly recommened for those that do debadge.

For those that debadged, can I ask you to send me the "C" from the Acura emblem? This way, I can have a TLC.

goo gone was not needed for me at all. i just washed the car first--put a hair dryer to it for about 2 min and they peeled right off-the adhesive stayed on the emblems-

I'm getting a WDP next week and would like to make this car look more "sport" than "luxury". I've already ordered 19" 5 spoke rims and will tint the back 5 windows. Pics to come.

My question is to get an opinion on rebadging the back with a red emblem (WDP) and taking off the lettering. Also, spoiler on a 4 door?

Thanks
