Car door auto lock feature?

Anyone know if there is a auto door lock feature on this third gen?

I dont expect to get robbed in front of my own house, but i does happen. Is there an autolock feature that locks the doors after so many minutes away from the car?

There is a setting for an auto lock up. You can set it for either when you shift from park or when you reach (iirc) 9 mph. This will lock the doors.

There is also a feature that if you unlock the doors and then do not open a door within 30 seconds, the doors will re-lock.

If you just get out and walk away from the car, the doors will not lock.

(fwiw - those are 3 separate features; not aspects of the same feature)

My doors lock when I remove the key from the ignition and walk away. IIRC there is a timing option as well.

It's weird though.. My doors will auto lock if I walk away from the car and forget to lock it after X time.. but one time when I was distracted I took the keys out and left them on the arm rest and closed my doors.. but it didnt auto lock. I don't think it has the capability to sense the keys are inside the car but holy shit was I glad it didnt lock.

It definitely doesn't sense that the keys are in the car. I learned that the hard way.

I'll have to check that.

We park ours in the garage and never lock the car while at home. Next morning (or whenever), the doors are not locked.

Perhaps I set it that way, way back when, and just forgot.

Edit: I don't see it in the MID Options section of the Owners Manual.

In my experience it's the same as any other locking system.

Turning the ignition off will unlock the drivers side or all 4 depending on how it's set up. It will not auto lock at this point and you can leave and it'll stay unlocked.

The only time where it "auto locks" is if you set it while you're moving/etc. or if you unlock the car while it's parked and NOT start the car (i.e. coming back and grabbing something you forgot after you parked, locked, and left the car). It will re-lock the car if you do not start the car and leave.

Not sure about the lock after I park. Mine does lock after I put the car in D & drive a little. One time I was washing it and unlocked the doors from the remote. I didn't open the doors & the TL locked on it's own.

The car does sense the key because when you open the door, it'll say "Welcome Driver 1". However, preventing it from auto-locking might be a different story and I'll take your word on that.

its not so much the key the car is sensing its the fact that you used the driver one key fob/remote to unlock the door.

Yes. It's in the MID Keyless Entry Settings (something like that). I believe the choices are "shift from P", "9 miles per hour" or "off" (maybe "none").

Check your Owners Manual if you have one. If not register at
http://owners.acura.com/landing.aspx for access to an on-line version (as well as a place to store radio and navi codes, etc).

my autolock feature has always been off since owning the car new. it really hasn't ever been an issue, i just manually lock the doors once i'm in the car. or i just didn't bother to figure out how to get the autolock to turn on.

my car does lock itself if i don't open the door within 30 sec of unlocking the car. it also locks the trunk too with the trunk open (try closing the trunk when the latch is closed (WTF?! why isn't it closing??) ...i've had this happen a couple of times, until i figured out that the car locked itself and the trunk-despite being open).

I love the auto-lock feature. Mine locks at about 7-9mph and unlocks when on "Park".

The TLs lock system is just the basic one found in nearly all cars. Locks when driving past a certain mph, relocks the car if you press unlock on the fob and don't open a door. Thats it. No thrills or fun stuff for the 3G.

I believe so. I think that's why the immobilizer light flashes on the dash until you put the key in the ignition. Could be wrong though.

I'm not talking about it autolocking when driving.

I want the doors to lock themselves when I walk away from the car.

My neighbor hood has been hit with thievery of late and If I forget to lock the doors, I want them to auto arm/lock itself. Almost alll toyotas do that automatically and was hoping that the tl 4th gen would also.

I went through alll the setting and there was one setting I thought would work auto lock after 30 seconds, but that doesn't seem to be it. Anyone know for sure?

Doesn't happen in the 2004 - 2008.

But wait! What year is your car?

I've already explained it. There is no proximity auto locking feature.

The only time that 30s comes into play is if you unlock the car with the fob (obv after being locked) and leave without locking it back. If you were to come back from a drive and turn the ignition off (which unlocks the door(s), and leave) it will not lock. ever.

Just spam the lock button as you walk away and listen for the several beeps. Make it a habit.

edit: actually i'd like to correct myself. If you unlock with the fob, and open a door it will cancel the timeout and it will remain unlocked. If you unlock and leave the doors closed (minus the trunk) it will lock back after 30s. Pretty sure it works this way. Either way there still is no proximity locking.
