Buying on eBay? EVAP canister purge valve

So I am finally fed up enough with the "Tighten Fuel Cap" message and read these two threads to figure out what I need to do.

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-p...-light-956527/

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-p...essage-915682/

Anyhoo, the part that needs to be replaced is like $110. There are plenty of eBay sellers in China selling this part for like $30. Anyone use these? The discount is so steep that the risk seems worth it to me. Honestly, 5 years ago I wouldn't have considered this, but now that my TL-S is 10 years old... I am at a point where it's worth saving a few bucks for a part that may not last as long because I may not own the car for more than 2-4 more years. Just curious to hear if anyone has had any experience with these Chinese parts.

You get what you pay for

If you don't want to spend money on OEM, just don't do it at all and save the $30 too!

I am a victim to trying to spend less on that stupid EVAP canister Purge Valve. I bought a DORMAN branded one which was i think $50, Says China right on the part, and my check fuel cap light came on more often and the message would not go out.
I'm getting mine from the dealer sooner than later, its one of the parts on my list.

Get OEM man and save those $30 dollars you're about to waste.
Give you and example at my dealer they are cheap as hell
they give the customers the cheap A$$ tires,shocks,$1 wiper and $10 brake pads ect.
Now when it comes
to emission parts they get them oem even if it cost them an arm and a leg just
so the customer doesn't come back with a dumb check engine light again
and 10 other added problems.

As others have entreated, don't use parts made in China. My

I'm curious to hear if the Honda Odyssey EVAP for 40 bucks worked (or not), too.

Interesting: I did an eBay search on "Odyssey evap purge" and got a bunch of returns with the right part number, and listed as oem in the ~$40 range. The only catch: they are all remanufactured.

I'm glad to hear this worked for you WDPanda. I'm gonna give it some thought and either bite the bullet and order full price oem, or this remanufactured part. I will heed everyone's advice and stay away from the China part. If anyone else has any experience with either the reman or China part, please chime in.

Just look at the physical features, older odyssey purge valves have a metal bracket attached but looks similar. Just visually check to see they are 100% identical. 2003 or 04 odyssey is when they changed. Look on the photo on ebay and make sure you see "made in Japan" or message the seller. Made in Mexico is bad.

Appreciate all the good feedback. I just ordered a remanufactured part on eBay. It was listed as an OEM part, and I made sure the pics showed "Japan" on it. I'll try to remember to post in a few weeks with how it works out. $42.88 with free shipping.

I wonder what constitutes "remanufacturing" on these parts. I've always wondered if that was possible as a DIY with new seals or something. Maybe I should pop open the spare I have at home..

I installed the remanufactured part two weekends ago (May 7) and the error has not come back. Lately, I hadn't been able to go more than a day or two without seeing the message, so it appears this part is doing its job well. I shall update this thread if I start seeing the "Tighten Fuel Cap" message again, but I am hopeful that I won't!

Thanks for the recommendation on the remanufactured part WDPanda. You saved me $60!

SIDENOTE: WDPanda's recommendation was to make sure the remanufactured part said "Denso Japan" on it, which I did. I noticed the old one I took off my car said "Denso Mexico" on it! I bought this car CPO in Dec 2007 with 10K miles. So Acura was putting these Mexican purge valves on at the factory? I guess the Mexican part worked ok for the first 6 or 7 years I owned the car.

Which seller did you buy from? I found a seller claiming they are OEM made in Japan, however, the actual part is not stamped with Japan on it. Price is only $.07 more than what you paid.

I got it from ebay seller reedbay. It looks like he upped the price a buck ($43.88 with free shipping) since I bought it. Also, you have to really look closely on his first pic to notice that it shows "Japan" on it. The seller must not realize how important that little detail is to some of the purchasers.

Any thoughts about this EVAP Purge Vacuum switch, which is a "used" part (not "refurbished") listed on eBay?

About to order one of these for my 2007 TL Base w/out NAV--3.2L 5AT.

According to the eBay listing, these are compatible with 3.5L engines from the Acura RL, also found in the 3G TL-S. Will this work for the 3.2L base engines in the 3G TL?

Thanks in advance for the guidance!

It's the same part, but I would make sure it shows "Japan" on it. Like I mentioned earlier, the (bad) part I pulled off my car had "Mexico" on it. I would stay away from those. Plus, the seller has it for $30, but with $10 in shipping, so the price is pretty much the same as the usual remanufactured Japanese parts (~$45). I would ask the seller to verify whether this is a "Japan" part or not. Just my

OK, received the "refurbished" EVAP purge valve canister (for a Honda Odyssey) today (thx WDPanda for the tip!) and swapped out my old/bad one.

The "new"/"refurbed" one said "Denso JAPAN" on it, yet I do still wonder about its authenticity simply because it was sent to me by one Lu Xu from Flushing, NY.... So it could very easily be a Chinese knock-off.....

Swap only took me 90 min. (after losing the bottom nut and washer in the engine bay!!)--3 times the time it should have. But as other have attested, it's an easy enough and straight-forward job that even a fool and non-wrenching person like me can get done (eventually).... No "Tighten Fuel Cap" warning since installation. Will update if any problems arise.

Thx to all--thoiboi, WDPanda, pkarandi--for encouragement and tips--and to RxWorld for a terrific DIY thread.

Haha 90 mins? Took me 5 mins but I understand extra time to find lost bolts, ask me how i know.
I love how Acura uses Honda parts, so great to find deals!
To remove the 2 rubber hoses it's best to use a large flat head to jiggle them out, otherwise you'll be yanking for hours plus some cut up knuckles. And i don't want to jinx it but i have yet to see an odd downstream O2 code i received every few weeks since replacement.

Yeah, 90 minutes--most of which were spent trying to figure out how to get better access to that bottom nut and then fishing around for dropped bolt and washer. The rubber hoses were actually a breeze, and replacing the part itself took about 5 min. Your tip about this Honda part was excellent. Thx again!

my ratchet + socket (without any extension) fit perfectly in there for the bottom bolt. Once you loosen it remove by hand to prevent from dropping. Best to start with the bottom first after cracking both loose.

I just wanted to follow up on this since another issue I'm having (O2 sensor - bank 2 sensor 1) reminded me of this problem from a few months ago.

It has now been over 4 months and I have not had a recurrence of the gas cap message. It looks like this Denso "Japan" remanufactured part is a winner!

Following up as well.

A little over 3 months ago (late May 2017) I installed a "refurbished" EVAP purge valve canister (for a Honda Odyssey) purchased via eBay and have yet to see the "Tighten Fuel Cap" light.

Seems like problem solved for me.
