Buying an Acura TL type S

I’ve been thinking about buying an Acura TL type S 2004-2008 . I’ve been seeing reviews about people with automatic transmission going out. Is this true? Is it even worth getting an Acura? I wanted to spend about 10k and I’d be using it everyday for commuting and family car. Driving about 70-100 miles a day. Please help!!

A few comments in no particular order:
  • There is no such a thing as a 2004-2006 TL Type-S, only 2007-2008 (the 2004-2006 models were not available with the Type-S option).
  • The above said, many consider the 2004-2006 TL 6MT an "almost Type-S" as the 6MT models have an upgraded suspension, steering, and brakes.
  • The 2007-2008 transmissions are updated and history has shown them to be much more robust.
  • It is the rare low mileage Type-S which is both clean and unmodified which sells for less than $10,000; fortunately you are looking for an Automatic model; the models with Manual Transmissions sell for considerably more.
