Buy a rebuilt Type-S?
So, the search for a Type-S continues. This time one about 5 hrs away from me.

It looks in pretty good shape, with 58k miles which unfortunately comes with a rebuilt title. He's asking for 11.5k which I know is highly unreasonable for a vehicle that's 10 years old with a rebuilt title. I'm guessing he's taking the low miles into his valuation. He said he bought new tail lights, bumper, and trunk, and apparently there was minor frame damage and the left exhaust was repaired.
I got him to send me a HQ pics as well as an image before the damage was repaired.

Are there any major repercussions to buying this vehicle other than possible alignment and trunk issues?
Thanks.

if telling the truth about the rear end hit, I would inspect the car to make sure the body is straight and the alignment is good.
Honda's are finicky with alignments to begin with. you dont want to be adjusting alignment every 5k miles
and no way is that car worth $11k with it being rear ended

Yeah, If i made the drive I'd take it to a mechanic for a PPI.
Couldn't find an "Edit" feature, so here's the pictures of the vehicle before/after the accident.

11.5 for a rebuilt title.. dafuq

I agree with justnspace, I would take it somewhere to ensure that the repairs were done properly. Everything could look fine on the outside but it is underneath that really matters. Get the frame checked out and look for any sloppy repairs to it.

No way would I buy a car with a rebuilt title, especially a 10 year old car for $11.5k. I'll would sell my super clean one owner black on black '08 for $12.5 and I'm only about an hour south of Nashville.

It's not even worth at 9.5..
You can find a clean title for the same price

That car isn't even worth $7000, why are you hoping he considers $9500?

Not considering $9500, it was just a price I threw out to get a feel for how much he was willing to budge. I know it's stupid to buy a 10 year old car with a rebuilt title for $9500 when I can buy a clean one with a little more miles for the same price.
I think what I wanted the point of this thread to be was to see if buying a rear ended Type-S for a reasonably low price would lead to any major issues later down the road.

Miles ain't nothing but a number man. Provided it's north of 100K but has had it's timing belt done, 9.5-10K is not a bad budget to be in.

The only gamble is not knowing the true extent of the damage and how it'll effect me later on, and how the previous owner cared for for the car before he decided to clean it up for a sale.

Well, that's why they call it a gamble

On the one occasion I found one that involved a rear ended car, someone brought up that if the car was RWD then you might have problems, but the TL is FWD.

Yeah, that's true. I know the 9-10k region is ultimately what I'd have to pay if I want a reliable/nice Type-S. I was just thinking that if I can find one that's somewhat meticulously kept for a bit cheaper, because of a rebuilt title which scares potential buyers off, then it'd be a win-win for me.

You will probably have to go out of state to get one.

those miles are true to pass 907a state inspection to receive your rebuilt title. everything is documented all parts that was changed must have receipts.

He got back to me today out of the blue saying if I was still interested at $9000, I told him after further consideration and shopping around a bit, I would pass unless he drops down to 7k. He said it was too low.
