Bumper Bully

Just had my 2008 TL repaired and it looks like new. I park in a NYC garage and thinking of getting a Bumper Bully to protect the rear bumper. Anyone have experience with this or similar products?

it's going to get damaged reguardless because of people when parallel parking. Your best bet is the A-spec rear bumper kit, that way if it's damaged, its a quick and easy replacement rather than getting a whole new bumper and then getting it painted.

Bumper bully is the ugliest shit ever. I would rather have a banged up bumper than that thing on my car.

Here is the pic that was posted in the other thread:

Kasendorf, I understand your dilemma-parking in New York. csmeance had a good idea. But if you have to use this ugly thing, please don't drive your beautiful TL around with it on. Please put it on upon parking and then take it off before you leave.

I take my comment back.. I didnt realize it was this .. I thought it was that rubber strip that they throw on the bumpers. This I might do.. people dont realize I think that this basically only comes out when you park and pops back into your trunk when you're done... so you're not driving around with this ridiculous thing.

I was thinking about getting one soon. I was happy that the newly installed A-spec rear bumper covered up the dings that I had on my car. I figured that I would be the person to only use it when I park. Does it really do a good job of protecting the car?

Didn't realize that I would create all of this controversy by asking a simple question. I do appreciate everyone's opinion of what the Bumper Bully looks like but that was not my question. Unlike some who said that they would prefer to have their rear bumpers damaged rather than use this (I doubt whether they are truly being honest with themselves) I would prefer to keep my bumper protected when parking provided that this thing works. So anyone with experience with the Bumper Bully or similar products I would appreciate your comments. Thanks.

what about using 3M 5mil thick clear plastic?-
the `clear bra` material is sold by the foot and can be applied to front and rear bumbers to protect from shopping carts, minor impacts and general road debris
Goes on like window tint and can be removed without paint damage years later

IMO a kid-group of kids sees something large and flat like bumper bully and their thoughts to mischief~
a/k/a spray paint tagging, or maybe cutting the straps

I have nothing against using this product. I would just use it when I am parked and when I drive, I put it back in the trunk. There is nothing wrong getting something to protect your bumper. It is a better solution than the ones that stick on the bumpers.

i have this on my TL... i can take a pic tonight if you would like to see what it looks like on our cars...

but i usually take it out after i park... and throw it back into the trunk after i leave... i do see people around the NJ/NY area drive around with it out all the time and i think it is stupid... i just leave it out to protect the rear bumper from idiots that use my car as a signal to stop when they are TRYING to parallel park... one of the reasons i put on my front license plate to protect the front bumper...

Who really cares how it looks, it protects your bumper. It's not like you are going to drive around like that. (though I see plenty of lazy-asses driving around like that, lol)

The only problem I see is that people will be less careful and more likely to do the "bump and feel" method of parallel parking than if you didn't have the protector. I imagine if they hit it hard enough at the right angle it could still damage your bumper.

How to Attach Your Bumper Bully
Bumper Protector Instructions:
* Please Read Disclaimer Before Using Product
(1) Open trunk and attach strap ends to the carpet * (Fig 1)
(2) Center product on rear bumper and adjust straps.
Product should always be positioned above the rear exhaust pipes. (Do not block the vehicles exhaust pipes)
(3) Before driving be sure to place product inside the trunk (do not drive with product attached). With the velcro straps still attached place the product flat inside the trunk (Fig 2)

NOTE: * If Velcro does not adhere to the vehicle’s carpet, you can use the additional two velcro stickers provided. Attach velcro stickers to a clean smooth surface under the trunk carpet or another accessible area; the straps ends can then attach here. If your vehicle has a spare tire compartment in the trunk, you may drop the straps into the compartment and close the lid (Fig 3). The weight of the lid will keep the straps in place.

OPTIONAL: If the BumperBully blocks your rear license plate you may cut out the center portion using a a razor. Use the raised edge as a guide.

DISCLAIMER:
WARNING! FAILURE TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTONS MAY CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY

Caution: Never drive a vehicle with product (Bumper Bully) attached. Doing so may be dangerous. Do not block or cover vehicle's exhaust pipe. Covering the exhaust pipe can damage the product and can allow dangerous fumes to enter the vehicle - resulting in injury or death. Not for use with rear engine vehicles. Intended for parking use only. Product was designed to protect the bumpers finish only. Product may not provide protection when impacts are over 1MPH.
* Attention - Some states prohibit the covering of license plates while parked. Check with local law enforcement for applicable laws before purchasing.

It's as Easy as 1 -2 -3 to attach the Bumper Bully

You must get the Bumper Bully that has the additional layer of foam they call Impact Absorber...helps in case a sharp bolt goes through the rubber mat.

The Bumper Bully is also good for outdoor use. There are better butt wrappers out there, but they are for indoor use only in indoor parking garages. A lot of BMW cars in NYC use these indoor butt wrappers

Smile worth getting.

uh...people the bumper bully is for protecting your car from idiots who can't drive and park for $h!t. It doesnt matter if its ugly, you aren't suppose to drive around with that thing. People obviously don't read. You take that out when your car is parked and put it back in before you drive your car. Leaving that thing hanging can actually leave marks and damages to your car. it can ruin the paint job due to the pressure. All in all, it is a great investment. Definitely get it, i just got my tsx2010. i already ordered mine. Get the platinum, it has cushioning in the back to take more hits vs the gold. But it is of course more expensive.

on another note, when parking your car, unless its an emergency or you are late for something important, never park your car next to a piece of $h!t. Chances are, they will definitely love tap you. They dont give a damn, their car is a piece of crap already, why not love tap yours a couple times....

Whoah calm down. If you like it, go get it. If you don't, don't. When someone hits my car, my car blows up causing his/her car to also blow up. Than my car goes into a regeneration phase where it rebuilds itself. The whole process takes a grand total of 1 minute.

i have the same exact one; and it works for me. i put it on when i park; take it off and put it in the trunk when i leave. my bumper has no scratches on it. Just so you know the bumper bully comes with an extra pad for more protection; this is optional though. it think is worth the extra $$ if you are buying it.
