Which Battery for Replacement?

Which battery do you all recommend for a 2008 TL?

Right now I have the 100 month Acura battery it in. Car originally had a different battery but after a few months it wouldn't start and the dealer replaced it free. They also changed out the HFL module. I thought about calling them and asking about the pro-rated deal but I figure i'll probably pay out the nose and i'll still be stuck with a crap battery, so i'll just bite the bullet and buy something else.

Fast forward a few years with the car 5 years old the battery is on its way out. It wouldn't start a few weeks back after it got really cold. I did a full charge on a battery charger and it seemed to work fine. Went away for a week and the battery was dead. I put it on the charger and at 85% the charger errored out. That usually only happens on bad batteries so i'm thinking this one is ready to be swapped out.

I searched and see that a lot of people like:
Interstate MEGA-TRON PLUS 24F 85 MONTHS 800 CCA
InterstateMEGA-TRON 24F FIVE-YEAR 600 CCA
Duralast Gold 750 Cold cranking Amps
Costco Battery (Not sure which, but I have a local Costco)
Optima - Have always thought of them as a top notch battery but after searching the forums it seems people don't think they are worth the price.

Seems like the batteries all range in the $85-$135 range (Minus the Optima).

I'm leaning towards one of the Interstate batteries only because they've done me well in the past. I plan to keep the car a long time, but the whole pro-rated deal doesn't ever seem to work out that great in the end so i'm planning at least a 5 year, but I'd go 8 year if it made sense.

I know the TL is a power hog, and seems like it is always starving for power.

Anyone have a battery they love and recommend???

I've been using the Die Hard Platinum for the past 12 months. Works like a champ.

The ones from Costco, Walmart, or Sears are fine.

I just replaced the POS AAA battery that was in my car when I bought it with a Die Hard Platinum, I swear the car idles smoother as stupid as it sounds. It's a gel cell design more like Optima but Optimas have been going down hill for a while. I also run an 800 watt amp with no issues. Only downside is the cost... $220, but 4 year free replacement and 8 year prorated so it's about the best warranty I've seen. Interstates are hit or miss... some people have good luck, but in my last vehicle I had one that only lasted 2 years tops, my uncle had one in his truck that also failed pretty quickly.

Do 04-06 and 07-08 have different battery sizes? Mine was a 35, per the book at Sears, fits like a glove.

+1 on Die Hard Platinum. By far the best battery out there. I had it in my TL for 3 yrs and then swapped it over to my dads car before I sold my TL.

My car came with the Acura battery, only had the car a year but it's been working just fine. I noticed it has a 100 month warranty, seems to be lengthy compared to other companies, then again I don't know how much Acura charges for batteries, might just be better off with another company.

I went with the Interstate but if I could do it again I would go with the Costco. Costco batteries are made by the same company and their warranty is really good. Also, they're a little less expensive.

I've had dura last and autozone has givin me 3 free ones in the almost 2 years I've had the car. Just got the 3rd about a month ago. I'd be pissed but its all been free under there warranty so it's worked for me but I would rather have one that actually lasted.

I've also had bad luck with batteries. I have an 04 with 121k and just put in the 4th or 5th battery, don't remember how many I've went through. My TL eats batteries... XD

Anyway, The battery I had before this just died last week, I got it in late 2011, like November, whenever it gets cold, the batteries do seem to die off. I didn't get a chance to get to sears until Sunday, so since wednesday, the cars been jumped around 5 times...afterwards, its completely dead, if I turned it off, left it sitting for a minute (not even) and tried again, it wouldn't start.

Does anyone know why my TL is going through so many batteries? Could it be a short in the electrical system?

I had Optima yellow top in my accord for 9 years and it still tested fine. I'll probably get another one when my acura battery dies.

It's probably the Bluetooth thing going bad, easy diy fix and not too expensive

Thumbs up Costco battery works well for me

I also recommend the Costco Kirkland battery. It is an excellent value for the money and comes with a terrific 100-month warranty, the first 36 getting a free replacement.

My OEM battery died after 5 years and I got the Costco battery. That was 37 months ago, so if it goes bad from now until month #100 the warranty is pro-rated.

Johnson Controls makes this battery, the same maker of many other brands: Autozone Duralast, Sears Diehard, Ford Motorcraft, Interstate, and others.

I did a Costco battery last week and they are fine. The cost was about $74 for a fitment code #3 battery.

My previous Costco battery lasted about 3.5 years before showing some signs of weakness and I can understand why. These batteries are refillable which I like- the only problem is that the TL's hold down bracket tends to force the outer refill cap to open up. That happened 1/2 way into the previous battery's life and I had a dry cell. I solved that by buying a metal nail strap plate from Home Depot so it puts even pressure across the two caps- that works great!

3½ years seems to be the average battery lifespan for these cars no matter what brand you choose. I previously had the highly rated Walmart Yellow Everstart 24F, which lasted exactly 3½ years as did the original battery that came with the car when it was new. Both batteries started to show weakness after about 3¼ years.

Pick out the battery with the highest # of Cold Cranking Amps and Reserve Capacity you can find. So far, that seems to be the Interstate Megatron Plus (Consumer Reports highest rated) as the overpriced Optimas seemed to have diminished in quality.

Thanks everyone. Maybe i'll head to Costco and check those out, or gran ab MegaTron which is around $132 give or take.

I see a deal on Advanced Auto Parts that will get me the AutoCraft Gold 24 for about $82. Their site says it is not compatible if I have the battery in "Garage", but if I select it manually from the product page it says its an exact replacement.

Anyone know if this battery will work? If I look at the Specs it says "24F" and the battery picture shows "24F-6", and the dimensions are very close to the Mega Tron Plus battery, check it out here:Battery Specs

Think this will work? I'm guessing yes.

I must have one hell of a battery in my 05 because it was replaced in 07 with a OEM battery or 3 years before I bought the car and its still going strong. Had it tested twice with good results. The last test being late December when I got my 105K maintenance performed but this thread is interesting because I'm sure since I have talked about my battery it will crap out soon lmao.

To anyone wondering, this battery worked perfectly. The Advance Auto Parts site says it is incompatible, but I think its because of the raised vent covers where the OEM's are flush. The battery lists for $116.99 but there is a coupon floating around and I got it for $81.99. That's a great deal i'd say considering AutoZone's comparable battery is $115.

I just cut the handle off of the battery, and it installed great. The bracket that holds the battery down rests on the vent cap but it still fit without issue.

Hope this one is better than the OEM, and if not I have 3 years to return it for a free replacement

Thanks. Optima etc. are name only. Diehard Costco good. But expensive. Wally's is 5-year warranty, 3-year replacement.
