Wink Alternative to Acura Trunk Liner from GM!

Universal Cargo Organizer with Adjustable/Removable Dividers
My wife's Pontiac G6 came with this as a dealer add-on, and when we traded it in we took it out of the trunk. It just so happens to be a PERFECT fit in the TL trunk side-to-side. It's WAY better than a cargo net...holds grocery bags, bottles, you name it, and everything stays upright. Very rigid and strong. Folds flat (about 1.5" high) when you need more space for large items and comes right out of the trunk with a handle any time you need even more space. You can use it with or without the two center dividers as needed. I really love this thing!

NOTE: If you have a TL with NAVI, it is a snug fit L-R. I Don't think it will sit flat in the trunk if you already have a trunk liner.

OUT OF TRUNK

IN TRUNK, FOLDED

IN TRUNK, OPENED

Universal Cargo Organizer with Adjustable/Removable Dividers
GM Accessory number 12498559. It's available from any GM dealer but you can get a better price online, for example from this GM Parts Dealer:

Well, by clicking on the link provided and entering the part number, I come up with $120 MSRP, but $90 is what they're selling it for. I'm sure Ebay has it for less.

I've been wanting to make a box for the back part of the trunk to keep stuff in. I have Navi, and a infinity basslink in the left corner so this definetly won't fit in my trunk.

But looks good in yours

Serious...it's very snug, no room for anything else L-R. So I don't think you should buy one if you plan on using it and the trunk tray at the same time!

It weighs about 5 or 6 lbs (guessing). Yes I have NAVI. It sits right up against the NAVI door on the right, and up against the raised lip on the left of the trunk...not tight but SNUG. When it's sitting flat on on the floor of the trunk, it does not move at ALL left to right (which I like!) Put it this way....if Acura made this thing, this is how it would fit. You do not have to force it down to get it in place, but once it's there it won't move at all until you want it out of the trunk. But when you go to take it out, it doesn't rub or resist at all. Just lift one side or the other (it's too wide to go through the trunk opening without tilting it either way), once it's clear of the trunk, grab the handle and tote it off. It's really very easy to get in or out of the car (takes a few seconds), and it takes about 15 seconds to open the two covers and slip in the dividers.

Oh and I forgot to mention, it has a 'well' like the trunk tray does, so if liquids do spill it will contain them. And there's that black liner inside it...its sort of 'sticky' so things don't slide around or make clunky noises, and the liner just lifts out for cleaning.

You put stuff in this organizer, and it never moves, breaks, rolls around the trunk, spills or ANYTHING. And it comes out of the trunk in seconds if you need to get in the spare tire well on the roadside, and it won't get blown away by a big wind (A major plus over using a full trunk tray).

It's almost difficult to believe that GM made this thing, it's really high-quality.
When I brought my car in for service, I had to grab something from the trunk before I got in the loaner. My service writer was standing right there talking to me, saw this in the trunk...and said 'what is THAT thing?' Before I knew it there was a crowd of employees standing there wanting a demo, and saying that if Acura made this they'd push it on every new user. They all loved it. When I went back the next day to pick up my car, the service writer and the service manager both came over and said they had them in their TL trunks already (Got them from the GM Dealer owned by the same company as thiers THAT DAY).

Guess you gotta see it, and use it to realize how great it is.

Yeah it is a bit pricey...no doubt. But it will last through a few cars for sure. So not really that expensive in the long run. This is already the second car mine is being used in and it still looks brand new after about 3.5 years of use.

If you want a cheap knockoff...go to Kmart, Wallmart, maybe even some Auto parts stores...they have Nylon fold-up things that are similar, but they have soft sides so they don't hold up gallon bottles that want to tip over when you press your TL through a tight turn.

You could also just steal some plastic milk crates from behind your grocery store too, but they don't fold down flat when you want them to.

I also remember seeing some collapsable storage cubes at IKEA that might work too.

S PAW 1, paz84, leedogg....

Glad to hear you are getting one of these things too, I think you'll love it.

Be careful when you order it...make sure you give them a description as well as the part number...I noticed that GM in thier infinite wisdom lists several versions of Universal Cargo Organizers with the same part number. Make sure you tell them it's the one with Adjustable/Removable Dividers, that it's grey, and that it fits in the trunk of the G6 Coupe.

Do the other guys a favor and post if you find a vendor with a good low price! Also, please give me your feedback after you get it in the trunk. I sure hope you like yours as much as I do mine.

Actually, i think theres only one version, their site is buggy - repeats the same one multiple times and wont let you add to cart. (or at least me) I actually called them up to place the order and they said only one part was coming up for that part number.

Yes, I got mine last week. I did everything by the book, and it is NOT a snug fit.
I have an '07 TL-S (w/Navi), and there are 4-6" of empty space L-R. That's fitting inside the Navi box.. I ended up getting some plastic storages crates from Lowe's to fill in the space to get a snug fit. Also, the end covers do not sit firmly into their plastic cradles. Seems to be many variables within GM's system as to size. Can't say I'd recommend 'em.
But, heck.....it was a good try! I may end up getting the Acura trunk tray, and see if it is a better fit inside the tray.
It was a great lead, so don't give up!

WOW, SPAW, I am so sorry! The one I got is just perfect. Did you take pics of the unit you did get? Is it the same (looking) as my pics?

I just got mine, and it fit fine. (I have a TL-S)

The sides seem a little flimsly. I put some pretty heavy book bags in them and the end opened up. I rearranged the bags and it looks ok, so far.

I am happy with the unit and I would recommend it.

I'm going to have to pick one of these up... and if It doesn't work out for me (I need to be able to fit a stroller in my trunk too) I'll just use it in my envoy. I'd like to find it cheaper though, maybe my gm dealer will give me a deal

I can't seem to find it less than $90 plus shipping. It's not about the money I just know the wife will yell at me for spending 100 bones on a damn plastic container lol

Try printing that price out, then stopping by a GM dealer...and ask them to price-match. They just might.

But yeah, it aint cheap. However, replacing your trunk carpet would cost more. And the one really good thing...you can use it in your next car too.

Follow up....

I keep some pretty heavy book bags in mine and I found the dividers popped out once or twice. I figured it needed a little reinforcement so I took a 6' heavy duty Bungee cord and wrapped it around the outside. It adds enough tension to hold everything in place, but I can still fold the unit down if I need to.

Just my

I like it. It lets me drive how I want, the way I want, while hauling around both groceries and car cleaning products without worrying about shit flying around back there. Fits in there snugly. I've also got the trunk liner in there.
