Advice on inherited Acura TL
I just got a 2004 acura tl navi from my grandmother, it only has 30k miles on it.
has new tires (michelin primacy mxm4)
Besides a detail and some interior leather conditioning.
Are there any maintenance issues that need to be addressed at this time?
Brakes look fine, may need some new fluid.
I appreciate your help, I am new to this forum!~ I also have a 2007 acura tl as well...

Replace the timing belt. Also check the power steering pump for any moisture.

I think I am going to get the timing belt done and the water pump. I may just have the mechanic replace all belts since they are all 10 years old. Thanks for the reply!

replace the brake fluid . That's some old fluid if she never had that done.
wouldn't hurt to do the coolant to (use honda/acura pre-mixed, not department store stuff).
All really cheap stuff if you can DIY.
I agree with CLtotheTL32 about the timing belt but that's your call. There's no lack of debate over it here at Acurazine. I have an 05 with 60K mile and when I called Acura they told me that it was just 105Kmi and no time limit. As I had a local Honda tech that could do the job at a really good price using OEM parts I decided not to take any risks. Others will say to wait to 105K.

When's the last time the tranny, cabin, and engine air filter was changed?

AC may need to be recharged from lack of use. Some of the seals may have dried out allowing refrigerant to escape. Maybe, maybe not -

I'll second the fluid suggestions, and throw in the power steering fluid as well. That probably hasn't been changed and should be, although lower priority than the brake & coolant. You may already know this since you have a TL, but if you're an auto transmission, there are lots of threads about putting in new fluid and transmission switches to help prolong it's health - search for more info on that topic.

The car has been at my parents house, so it was driven from time to time. I am going to put some ATE blue braking fluid in myself and inspect the pads and rotors. The AC is working really well. I also just ordered a cabin filter and air filter.
I think the tranny fluid needs to be changed, it is shifting a little hard. I just did the coolant.
I conditioned the leather interior lastnight with CG's cleaner&conditioner, looks great.
Thanks for all the replys guys, I really appreciate all the help.
1st day on the forum!
"NTTSTT" I would sell the 07, but my wife is going to sell her car and she is going to drive this 04 TL since its paid off. No car notes!

Hey guy,
For starters - never top off brake fluid. If the fluid is below level it's an indication that the pads are low or that you have a leak. I'm a mechanic, and at one of my old shops I was told not to top off brake fluid for that reason.
Secondly, I would R&R all filters and flush all of the old fluids. The more vital filters include the fuel filter, cabin air (for your A/C) and intake air filter. The fluids I'd have flushed out are your brake fluid and your power steering fluid. I wouldn't flush your tranny fluid unless the quality of the fluid has changed (color-wise).
Next, when you get a chance I'd have your alignment checked out just to make guarantee long-lasting tire tread. Hell, when it's on the rack get under it and inspect for leaks and axle play.
Lastly I'd inspect the battery. Make sure the terminals are clean and that the battery is properly charged.
It's really just general maintenance stuff. I do it to all the cars at work when I do my safety checks.

I am not topping off the brake fluid, I meant flush it and put in brand new brake fluid.
Ive just changed air and cabin filter myself.
The timing belt is about to be changed along with all belts and the water pump.
The tires are new and alignement has been done.
Appreciate all the help!
