Advice on buying a 2005 TL

Hey Guys,

I'm in the process of buying a 2005 TL (with Navigation) from a dealer with 108k miles. The sticker price is $13,995. I'm having cold feet whether I should buy it for such a price, since the mileage is already over 100k. The car looks and drives great. I pulled a Carfax on it, which shows regular service done at a dealership, but I still want to make sure it's going to last me awhile, especially I'll be financing half of that price of the car. What do you guys think? Is it worth it?

Joe

Sounds like a good deal, could maybe go a little lower, also, DEFINITELY ask if it's had the 105k mile service done.

thats about the same price i bought mine for but mine had 92k miles. check the navigation drive for they tend to go bad. which mine is going bad now. navi reboots every now and then , talk function doesnt work most of the time and ur position will be off the map. those are signs of a bad navi drive. check the bluetooth module to see if its working as it should. try to pair ur phone. also since its over 100k, ask if the 105k services were performed. its needed. check AC to see if it works properly, check for fluid leaks, too much curb rash on a rim could mean a possible cracked rim, inside part. also check for blemishes on the paint or un matched areas. oh and u will probably need to replace the HID bulbs too. they dim over time. thats what i can think of right now. hope i helped somewhat. BTW what color is it , pics would be nice :o) just saying

As someone who purchased a high mileage TL recently I have to agree with the other posters. The CarFax should show you that the 105K maintenance was performed, if not the asking price is too high. I purchased my 06 5AT for 11,100 with 129K on it. Also, educate yourself, look at KBB and NADA and look at how much the car is worth as Trade, Sold Via Private seller and Dealer. The price overall seems kind of high to me, I would pay $12,000 for the car if it has had the 105K maintenance done. If not, then I would say $10,500 - $11,000.

Dealer will always be more expensive than a private party. I got my 04 with 52k miles from a private party for 14k a little over a year ago.

Transmission service record knowledge would be nice. And yes for that price the timing belt/water pump needs to have been done or deduct $1200 or so

you can probably find for a lower mileage at that price, just like every one else said that 105k service is up so expect to spend out around $1200.

I bought a high mileage TL, as long tranny and suspension are ok, and no engine issues are apparent, it's fine.
Honda motors are bullet proof. The motor is what I worry about the least with hondas

It depends on condition and locale but you should be able to lower the price much below tag price! I bought 05' TL 98k 3 years ago $11k. Good luck!

It's amazing how cheap these cars are even with low miles. Either its a great deal or they don't hold their value. Either way, 14 does sound a bit high for 108k miles. But navigation does help to retain value. It does look good in that pic, it may be a good car, but I wonder if they would take 12 or 13? Check kbb and nada.com. then look at others on craigslist or other websites. But not eBay. Just compare around. If it has not had a timing belt service done, its due now. That will set you back , on the average, 600 to 900. Depends on where you take it and how many things they replace.
